Donating hair for wigs?
I've not cut my hair since the 2004 election and it's way down past my waist, but after the inauguration, I plan to have about 12-14 inches taken off. I've heard that you can donate hair to make wigs for cancer patients. Does anybody know anything about this, who I would contact, etc.? It's great hair, really, thick and very little gray, despite my advanced age. I would hate to see it go to waste.

3. GREAT company!
My son grew his hair down to his shoulderblades (teenage phase) and got sick of it so we went to get his cut and arranged for locks of love to get his hair. The stylist said he had enough for two wigs.

GUIDELINES FOR ACCEPTABLE DONATIONS

* Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.
* Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
* Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. We are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process.
* Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it is not bundled in a ponytail or braid.
* Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. If shaving your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off.
* We cannot accept dreadlocks. Our manufacturer is not able to use them in our children’s hairpieces. We also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair.
* Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
* Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.

* Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
* 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.

8. Thanks, I have a little bit left to go, maybe next yr.
I've been considering this also, but wasn't sure how long it needed to be. Thank you.

4. Most hairdressers will take care of it for you - just ask they save it and send it

To locks of love

I cut my hair awhile back & I was surprised it was long enough. My hairdresser suggested it.

6. It's an excellent way to help
Our daughter has done it twice, and her hair is getting rather long now so she may be planning to donate a third time.

7. My nieces both donated last year. In Canada you can choose the province your hair goes to.
