Common Food Additive Found To Increase Risk And Speed Spread Of Lung Cancer
New research in an animal model suggests that a diet high in inorganic phosphates, which are found in a variety of processed foods including meats, cheeses, beverages, and bakery products, might speed growth of lung cancer tumors and may even contribute to the development of those tumors in individuals predisposed to the disease.

The study also suggests that dietary regulation of inorganic phosphates may play an important role in lung cancer treatment. The research, using a mouse model, was conducted by Myung-Haing Cho, D.V.M., Ph.D., and his colleagues at Seoul National University, appears in the first issue for January of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, published by the American Thoracic Society.

"Our study indicates that increased intake of inorganic phosphates strongly stimulates lung cancer development in mice, and suggests that dietary regulation of inorganic phosphates may be critical for lung cancer treatment as well as prevention," said Dr. Cho.

1. as usual, we get to be all scared of our food without any education
about what is actually dangerous:

Dr. Cho said future studies will help refine what constitutes a "safe" level of dietary inorganic phosphate, with recommendations that will be easily achievable in the average population.

This is my #1 pet peeve about journalistic shortcomings.

3. Legitimate concern
Food additives are definitely not good for your
health. I think this article should promote
more caution in food and beverage choices.

Go organic and natural whenver possible!

4. Thanks for posting. We should all go back to making our own food from
scratch. It would be a lot of work but I bet it would reduce the cancer rates a lot.

Between the additives and preservatives and the plastic wrapping needed for transportation/packaging- it all adds up.

5. What would these inorganic phosphates be called
in common usage?

That is, what would one look for on a food label?

Thanks.

7. Here's an article
with a table of the inorganic phosphates. Basically look for any mineral followed by "phosphate", e.g. calcium phosphate.

6. Another source of lung cancer
occurs when formaldehyde mixes with chloride ions in the air.
Think about that. Formaldehyde is everywhere in homes and the use of chlorine is common. The chemical that is created is called bis chloromethylether (BCME) and comes and goes in the environment according to the conditions.
It causes small cell lung cancer and has one of the shortest latency periods known. Small cell lung cancer is the most common form that women get.

12. That's the funniest post I've read in weeks
The well-known fraud and thief Kevin Trudeau knows only one "cure," and he sure as shit doesn't want you to know about it.

The "cure" he's touting is for his own lack of funding, and the more credulous people who plunk down cash for his book, the sooner his "cure" will be realized...
