Reducing carbohydrate was the biggest thing that helped me. Most of the anti-candida stuff was neutral. I mainly paid attention to what I added and substituted, and came to the right balance pretty fast. For other people, lactobacillus is the "key"; I've never met anyone who didn't feel a lot better by simply eating less sugar, more yogurt, and more fiber. Abstaining from cheese, wine, and even antibiotics doesn't seem to be nearly as effective (though you should avoid antibiotics as much as is medically possible for reasons of bacterial resistance).
I think that both orthodox and "alternative" medicine have a habit of blowing their concerns out of proportion. Most Americans simply need to --
- exercise more (but not fanatically) - eat a little less, less quickly and compulsively - eat more vegetables and "real" food (as opposed to heavily pre-processed food) - obsess less about their bodies - stop thinking that food is either medicine or poison - pay attention to the way food, activity, medications, entertainment, etc., makes you feel
Enjoying life isn't usually a natural thing that needs to be restored by killing your intestinal yeast, overcoming fibromyalgia or the Quimsy, or clearing your engrams -- it's a series of habits you can learn, and fairly quickly, and enjoyably themselves. Reducing candida overgrowth will help you, but finding the habits that work for you is the main thing. Then, if you do develop an illness, you can deal with it from the basis of good health and at least an enjoyable life.
Good luck!
