How vailid is the problems caused by candida?
I just saw a nutrionist and I am going thru a candida cleanse. I believe that there is some validity to this, does anybody have anything to share about this..positive or negative?

1. Somewhat
Reducing carbohydrate was the biggest thing that helped me. Most of the anti-candida stuff was neutral. I mainly paid attention to what I added and substituted, and came to the right balance pretty fast. For other people, lactobacillus is the "key"; I've never met anyone who didn't feel a lot better by simply eating less sugar, more yogurt, and more fiber. Abstaining from cheese, wine, and even antibiotics doesn't seem to be nearly as effective (though you should avoid antibiotics as much as is medically possible for reasons of bacterial resistance).

I think that both orthodox and "alternative" medicine have a habit of blowing their concerns out of proportion. Most Americans simply need to --

- exercise more (but not fanatically)
- eat a little less, less quickly and compulsively
- eat more vegetables and "real" food (as opposed to heavily pre-processed food)
- obsess less about their bodies
- stop thinking that food is either medicine or poison
- pay attention to the way food, activity, medications, entertainment, etc., makes you feel

Enjoying life isn't usually a natural thing that needs to be restored by killing your intestinal yeast, overcoming fibromyalgia or the Quimsy, or clearing your engrams -- it's a series of habits you can learn, and fairly quickly, and enjoyably themselves. Reducing candida overgrowth will help you, but finding the habits that work for you is the main thing. Then, if you do develop an illness, you can deal with it from the basis of good health and at least an enjoyable life.

Good luck!

3. Thank you for your input
I have taken antibiotics a lot during my lifetime. A lot of upper respiratory infections including a sinus surgery. After all of the antibiotics that I have taken I was told and I have read that a candida cleanse would be very beneficial to my health and would address a host of problems.

I have recently cut out almost all of my prescriptions and I intend on not getting on that bandwagon again. It seemed everytime that I went to my doctor and every complaint that I gave him would prompt him to write another scrip. I believe that we are on a wrong path for our health and of course me in particular. I am starting to try to make some big changes.

7. Pigwidgeon, I never thought I'd say this,
but I am in complete agreement with you. Well, I don't know anything specifically about candida, but I agree with all the points on your list. Anything can happen, I guess!

2. Yeasts (candida is a yeast) are tough to kill because their cells
are similar to ours so anything things that kill them tends to hurt us. Usually infections imply that our own immune system is weak, that our body chemistry has been thrown off (diabetes, steroids) or that we have killed friendly yeasts with a course of strong antibiotics.

One way to fight candida is to replace it with a friendly (benign) yeast and re-establish a normal ecosystem. Hence a diet with natural (made with live yeast) yogurt can be helpful. If you have an active infection I would recommend an infectious disease doc or an internist.

4. I am taking garlic, acidopholis and on a anti-yeast diet
I am also allergic to dairy, so yogurt is out of the question since I am going off of dairy to.
