Tofu 'may raise risk of dementia'
"Eating high levels of some soy products - including tofu - may raise the risk of memory loss, research suggests.

The study focused on 719 elderly Indonesians living in urban and rural regions of Java.

The researchers found high tofu consumption - at least once a day - was associated with worse memory, particularly among the over-68s.

The Loughborough University-led study features in the journal Dementias and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders."

Soy sauce and hog food.

2. Hate that shit anyhow.
Can't eat soy products, interferes with thyroid hormone absorption. Would be interesting if that was the link.

4. Estrogen-like compounds are the culprit here.
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. These products contain estrogen-like compounds and cause one to become estrogen-dominant, which increases humoral inflammation. NOT a good thing, unless you want to have an autoimmune disease.

6. Until a Study Shows a Similar Effect in the West
I'm putting my money on the formaldehyde option. Asia is notorious of food adulteration and harmful additives.

I would be really disappointed if daily tofu consumption is bad for you. It is a great protein source and generally very healthy.

People in the US tend to hate it because it's misused to make fake meat and poultry, the most common form is the mushy soft-textured, and it's prepared in a bland way, almost as a kind of penance.

Tofu in Asia has tremendous variety, with different flavorings, textures, and forms, including noodles. It is often deep fried. Although it's naturally bland, it can be prepared with intense and spicy flavorings. And it's very easy to make.

7. I thought soy was a reason why Asians were
more healthy. They received protein from non animal source.

One half-cup serving of raw firm tofu contains 10.1 grams of protein. The recommended daily intake is 56 grams for most men and 46 for most women. A half-cup of tofu is approximately 4 oz by weight, or just under 1/3 of the average sized 14 oz package of tofu. By comparison, 1/2 cup dairy milk contains 5.1 grams of protein, one 3 oz egg contains 6 grams and 4 oz ground beef contains about 26 grams of protein.

8. OK, I confess
I really just posted this in response to the mild slander on meat eaters. It was meant to be taken with the same seriousness as that post.

In case you didn't catch it in the OP, the participants ate tofu at least once a day. There are plenty of health concerns about people who eat beef once a day, or pork once a day. Eating the same thing day after day is not as good for you as having a varied diet. So finding health problems in people who get all their protein from one source should not surprise any one. :)

Your really getting off on this vindictive side.

I guess that shows your true nature.
