Hey type 2ers--would you agree that chocolate is not the enemy?
At least not for me. Blood sugar is no worse after heavy chocolate eating days.

1. Isn't chocolate a fat and not a carbohydrate?
It's the sugar in the chocolate that'll kill ya.

3.  Chocolate 'may cut diabetes risk'
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 04:28 AM by muriel_volestrangler
Scientists are to investigate whether eating chocolate can reduce the risk of heart disease in women with diabetes.

Volunteers - postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes - will be asked to eat a bar of chocolate a day for a year.

Cocoa is rich in compounds called flavonoids, which are thought to benefit the heart.
...
Soy - another source of flavonoids - has also been added to the special bars.

As ever, read the whole article - I can't give it all in 4 paragraphs, and there are caveats and so on in it.

4. Dark chocolate also lowers blood pressure.
No link, but I read that in the papers last year. All in moderation, of course.

5. It's not the chocolate, it's the sugar
that does the damage. However, as cheats go, dark, bitter chocolate with the least amount of sugar is probably one of the better ones.

My mother's once a year cheat was a box of Belgian chocolates from me. I'd never have fed her strawberry shortcake or any other sugar laden food, but she adored those chocolates and stretched that one box out over several weeks.
