how do you know if a gel pill is water soluble?

The coQ10 that I bought doesn't indicate if it is water soluble. I asked a pharmacist today at Walgreen's, and she had no clue. And yet the recommendation from the cardiologist is for "water soluble" gel cap.

So how does one know?

5. They are water soluble. Made of gelatin.

They're a mixture of gelatin derived proteins; they're used because they dissolved so quickly. Even if it doesn't say water soluble on the packaging, they are. :hi:

7. You're talking about the Q10! (sorry)

In it's natural form it's fat soluble, but they make a water soluble form and I would expect that if it's in a gel cap, it is. I'd try to dissolve in water to be sure. :hi:

8. You could always stick in a glass of water

to find out, although the water will then taste quite nasty. The gel coating will dissolve. If the CoQ 10 is oil soluble, there will be blobs of oil on the surface of the water. My best guess is that your gelcap contains the oil soluble form of it. It's the cheaper form and compensates for less bioavailability by increasing the dose.

CoQ 10 is naturally oil soluble.

Companies have developed a stable CoQ 10 that is water soluble, but you're probably not going to find it in the vitamin rack at a drugstore. You'll have to go to a health foods store and expect to pay through the nose for it. It will be in tablet, softgel or powder form. The dose will be lower than what it says on the gelcap label but you'll use more of the dose.
