Researchers say new drug helps prevent premature ejaculation
Researchers say new drug helps prevent premature ejaculation

TORONTO — A short-acting version of a drug used to treat depression helps alleviate premature ejaculation in those severely affected by the condition, improving sexual satisfaction for both the men and their female partners, U.S. researchers say.

Their multicentre study of more than 2,600 men with the problem found the experimental drug dapoxetine increased time before ejaculation during sexual intercourse by three to four times, depending on the dose.

Dapoxetine belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which are widely prescribed for depression and include such brand names as Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft. Dapoxetine was specifically developed for premature ejaculation, based on a side-effect of delayed ejaculation associated with its longer-acting SSRI cousins.

“This is the first drug especially targeted towards premature ejaculation, which is a common problem,” said principal investigator Dr. Jon Pryor, a urologist at the University of Minnesota.

1. Wouldn't just thinking about Ann Coulter have the same effect?
Of course, the side effects would probably be far worse.

5. Shit! I opened this thread just to write nearly the same thing.
I was thinking that picturing Rush and Ann the Man together would have the same effect with only psychological side effects!

6. That would probably not only prevent premature ejaculation,
it'd ensure you wouldn't be getting it up for a week.

Ann Coulter = the anti-Viagra.

2. Hmm, what if a person mixed this with Viagra?
It would make one happy sex partner, no?

7. Well, that certainly makes sense
given the number of men I know who describe themselves as Prozac eunuchs.

SSRIs can have a devastating effect on sex drive, especially in men. Sex versus life itself is a pretty tough decision for many people.

That it would treat premature ejaculation is pretty good news.

Wives and girlfriends will be delighted.

8. a cure for PE is the best we can do?
:wtf:

Don't we, as a species, have bigger fish to fry than PREMATURE EJACULATION and ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION?

No wonder health care costs so much...

9. The best we can do?
Hmm. I see a lot of logical fallacy in your post.

First of all, you have a 'false choice' here. It's not a choice between PE drugs and drugs for other conditions.

And I don't see what this has to do with health care costs, unless you yourself are paying for premature ejaculation drugs.
