probably won't be in your doctors magic kit.

Chronic Inflammation
The Epidemic Disease of Aging
http://www.lef.org/LEFCMS/aspx/PrintVersionMagic.aspx?CmsID=32226

Numerous studies show that pentoxifylline (PTX) is a potent inhibitor of TNF-a, IL-1(b), IL-6 and other pro-inflammatory cytokines.<62-69> A similar number of studies show that DHA fish oil suppresses these same cytokines.<23-30, 31-32> In people suffering from a chronic disease involving elevated levels of the inflammatory cytokines, the daily administration of 400 mg to 800 mg of PTX and/or 1000 mg to 2000 mg of DHA fish oil could be of enormous benefit.

We have previously published information showing that cytokine-suppressing nutrients such as fish oil and nettle leaf prevent and treat a wide range of diseases. In the second addendum that appears at the end of this editorial, we review studies that substantiate the potential off-label benefits of PTX in protecting against inflammatory cytokine-induced diseases.

What You Should Do?

The number of inflammatory-related diseases that could be successfully treated with cytokine-lowering therapy is staggering. Pentoxifylline (PTX) is a cytokine-suppressing drug that has been overlooked by most of the medical establishment. Supplements such as fish oil, nettle leaf, DHEA and vitamin K possess mechanisms of suppressing inflammatory cytokines similar to PTX. There are no side-by-side comparisons that would enable us to categorically state whether PTX or natural agents (such as DHA fish oil) work better.

1. I just take a bit of aspirin each day.
I expect it's a whole lot cheaper, has been thoroughly tested and shown to be effective, and is regulated so that I can be sure of the potency and purity.

This is excellent information, with lots of references.

It's really no big deal. There is one poster here who constantly posts links to the same anti- alternative medicine blog, do you think he/she is being paid to do that to boost its readership?

It's despicable and disingenuous. It's as if someone chose to post crap straight from Eli Lilly's web site. Oh, and selective references by a supplement seller are meaningless.

If you can't see that much, then, well, WOW! :wow:

19. No, you're not.
Evidence means nothing to you. If it did, then you could claim to be "all for good medicine too." Further, since most of the "alternative medicine" you push has not been shown to have any worth, what you refer to as ad hominem attacks may just be the reality of those scam treatments.

I know you're replying to HuckleB, but I'm curious how evidence means anything to you when you reject it out of hand when it doesn't support your preexisting beliefs about CAM.

You're posts are very clear on that issue. Whenever evidence goes against the magical thinking you prefer, you ignore it.

Again, pretending it isn't so, doesn't change a thing.

Edited on Wed Aug-17-11 11:04 AM by HuckleB
So, until you do, all I have to do is point to the posts you've made. In fact, this response makes it very clear that the reality that you don't care about scientific evidence, the scientific process, etc..., and that you do little but root for "treatments" that you want to be worthy but have yet to be shown to be worthy. Until you do something different, your claims to care about evidence are just magic dust. To restate it: Your repeated, blind support for every anecdote offered to support "treatments" you want to believe is good evidence that you do what I'm claiming you do. How do you not see that?

thus, I really don't care what your "impression" of my "world view" is. I have stated before that I believe western/allopathic medicine has its place. So does alternative medicine, which is what I prefer.

If you call if "magic dust" that's your prerogative.

You have made it clear that you have no care for evidence, despite making a general claim. Your specific posts repeatedly make that claim false.

I could go into the rest of the logical fallacies you continue to offer, but I'm not feeling generous today.

It's quite a bizarre world you've created for yourself. "I care about evidence, uh, just as long as it isn't evidence I don't like." So, yeah  !!!!!!

For some reason, the mods feel that posting a for-profit company's marketing materials complete with medical advice is acceptable as long as the links to buy the products being advertised are hidden.
