1. sad, but true
its sad isn't it? Now, if all american indian tribes change their blood quantum to descendancy, I think we will have universal health care...its just a thought...:)

4. Thorny issue there.
Many tribe members want to keep it more exclusive - some on account of principles, but others are motivated by greed.

2. The funniest thing I love to hear from the right is that "the
US has the best healthcare in the world". In comparison to all other industrialized nations the United States has the worst health, the most numbered of uninsured and the most expensive system. The US spends over 15% of GDP, has 40 million uninsured and its people are sicker and die younger than any other rich country.

Granted, US citizne do subsidize the cost of medicines for the rest of the world. Otherwise though it is a lousy system and a laughable joke.

3. Up to 40 cents on the dollar on administrative costs for our "best" system
Compared to Medicare's 2 to 3 cents on the dollar. Eventually people (and more importantly, COMPANIES) are going to figure it out. Let's hope we're still around when they do.

5. The U.S. has among the worst health statistics of all rich nations
The U.S. does not have the best health care system in the world - it has the best emergency care system in the world. Advanced U.S. medical technology has not translated into better health statistics for its citizens; indeed, the U.S. ranks near the bottom in list after list of international comparisons. Part of the problem is that there is more profit in a pound of cure than an ounce of prevention. Another part of the problem is that America has the highest level of poverty and income inequality among all rich nations, and poverty affects one's health much more than the limited ministrations of a formal health care system.

The sad thing is, we could cover all of the uninsured and to provide full prescription drug coverage for everyone in the United States without spending any more than we are now if we just went to a single provider system like Medicare.
