Teen with measles attended events

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Health officials want to spread the word about several locations where people were recently exposed to measles after two cases have been confirmed in Clark County.

An infant was diagnosed with measles in February after returning home from a trip to India. Then, a Vancouver high school student was unknowingly infected by the infant and exposed others before realizing he was contagious.

The Vancouver Christian High School student had never been immunized for the measles. The young man went to school while infectious, said Dr. Alan Melnick, Clark County Health Officer, as well as a 7-Eleven and a church youth group event.

:grr:

ETA: According to the article, an additional ten students at the school were unvaccinated, and over 130 people, after reading an article about an unvaccinated student spreading measles, voted, "we don't believe vaccines are necessary" on the accompanying poll.

1. Hmmm....had he been immunized, he would have not been infectious,

now, would he? How very Christian of him and his family for not getting immunized.

I'm assuming that the public school kids are required to be immunized there in Vancouver.

2. In checking, I find that Vancouver, WA public school students
are require to have MMR immunizations, to prevent just this sort of thing.

Fascinating. But the kids at the Christian school are apparently not. Too bad for them, I think. Measles can kill.

3. I was transmitted Scarlet Fever as a teen by some girl attending school
KNOWING she had it and laughing about it. She came over and breathed on a group of us while laughing.

It should be against the law to knowingly transmit contagious diseases.

4. I wholeheartedly support criminal liability for parents of unvaccinated children who spread disease.

6. So an OP with an odd article about vaccines in Japan being halted...
... gets multiple recommendations, while an OP about the spread of disease by anti-vaccine parents is unrecommended repeatedly.

What the fuck is wrong with DU?

7. Maybe people don't like the reminder that their "personal choice" affects more than their family.
