Please please please know that not all of DU supports Obama on Warren
I know GD: P has been a terror today, but I just wanted to post a thread to show my support for you all. I don't know, I've just been feeling so jaded towards both Obama AND DU lately. This place is going to be a nightmare whenever Obama screws up because of his blind defenders that believe in Obama the man more than what Obama represented for many. Please know that there are at least SOME of us that still favor an ideology that supports civil rights for all over a man that's no better and no worse than all of us that just happens to be PEOTUS.

7. There's still a GD:P!?
I would have never known. :)

Options are a wonderful thing. But it's sad to see the sit-down-and-shut-up sentiment seeping into the rest of DU.

2. I agree
I was disgusted with the Treasury Secy choice but this Rick Warren involvement has sent me over the edge. It's a terrible signal that doesn't reflect my values.

6. I'd like to show my support too.
I'm a straight middle-aged woman who grew up on a Kansas farm, but I've been supportive of gay rights since the mid-80's. I was appalled at what happened in California, Arizona, Arkansas and Florida, and I'm appalled that Rick Warren is being given such a prominent platform when there are so many other decent choices available. I've marched several times with my gay brothers and sisters. I can't march now, but I wanted to say something. Your time will come, it will. I know it in my heart. One day people will look back in disbelief that homosexuals were treated so badly, just as we look back now and cringe at how blacks were treated before and during the civil rights era. It can't happen soon enough. It should have happened by now. It will happen, and I'm so sorry that it hasn't happened yet.

I don't think I can watch the Inauguration now. It kills me to say that, but I just can't. I'm so sad, and furious, and depressed. Shame on those who are telling you to "get over it."

12. Thank you for your kind understanding and support
A lot of gay folks that are younger do not remember that we were subject to even worse treatment and that we were also marching and supporting Afro American civil rights too.
Electro shock, castration, forced drugging, jail these things also happened to gay people during the 40s, 50s and 60s too. The American Psychiatry association had us as diseased up til 1970.

8. i've read about 4 or 5 threads on this subject this evening
(within the past hour since i got off work). i read one post that defended the decision as being politically expedient. many many more that deplore the decision (i fall into the latter category). and yet two of the threads were predicated on the supposition that DU on balance supports the decision? i must really miss a lot while i'm gone.

i really think a consensus would find most DU'ers to a greater or lesser degree disgusted by the choice.

9. You may be right
It could be just a few loudmouths that make themselves appear to be more numerous than they actually are.

11. I know that, but thank you for posting this here.
Seriously, I'm not surprised at all by a single one of today's hateful posters. I'm familiar with them all and their views are well-known.

They absolutely don't represent the majority of DU. I know that.

13. Saying Obama made a bad choice
Is not the same as backstabbing. We need to say when we disagree, because that is the only way to make sure he stays on track. To those who say get over it, I say this "get out of the way of those who actually are doing the work that was started when Obama ran.", and part of that is to make sure he does not get sidetracked.

Now, for those of you who say Hillary would have done better, I say you are wrong. I do not see how "don't ask, don't tell" Clinton as seen as LGBT.

14. Thanks to our allies for the supportive words
that choice is really just another bummer to us as human beings and seems so unnecessary.

15. I support my GLBT brothers and sisters
Period. I'll stand w/ them every moment to ensure they get the same rights that I do as a Hetrosexual.

I'm sorry that once again, they were told that their rights are trivial. That makes me literally sick.
