Archbishop of Canterbury Snubs North American Churches

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has refused to attend a joint meeting in late April of American Episcopalian and Canadian Anglican bishops.

Archbishop Andrew Hutchison of the Anglican Church of Canada said Williams' rejection of the invitation was ``clearly linked'' to the turmoil over homosexuality.

``It does send a very, very negative symbol to the Canadian church, no question,'' Hutchison recently told the Anglican Journal , the church's monthly newspaper. ``The message it sends to us is that at the moment he does not want to be associated with the Canadians.''

2. Why don't the North American churches declare Williams "out of communion"?

It's time they moved on from being affiliated with the CofE anyway. It's an obsolete institution.
