A legal challenge to a Maryland law preventing same-sex couples from marrying may be expanded to include conservative lawmakers.

The Court of Appeals is considering an application by eight state legislators and a county clerk who oppose same-sex marriage to present arguments in the case.

Last summer same-sex couples denied marriage licenses filed the suit claiming that county clerks in following the law banning gay marriage were violating the state Constitution's guarantees of equality. (story)
