No On 8 Contributions Catching Up !
As of Oct. 15th, there have been $21,788,044 in contributions to defeat Calif. Prop 8 and $26,126,253 in support of it, according to the LA Times tracking webpage:

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-moneymap,0,2198220.htmlstory

Some problems I see with the No On 8 campaign:

They are charging big UPS fees to ship No On 8 yardsigns (why not ship them USPS?!)

Also, they are not willing to pay for an Ellen DeGeneres commercial (that was donated to them!) to be televised, so Ellen has to now pay for the commecial time. :wtf: ?

1. "Free speech" is awfully expensive.
The tv networks use the PUBLIC airwaves, which, to an idiot like me, would imply that they are owned by the citizens of this formerly American nation. But they are run by rich companies in league with repigs.

Yet, political campaigns have to pay money to the companies that are using our PUBLIC airwaves, and in fact, there is no longer any law, or some other such outmoded thing, that assures that broadcast opinions are balanced by conflicting opinions, ie, a "fairness doctrine."

The answer would seem to be MONEY OUT OF POLITICS, PERIOD, but maybe I'm just a ranting drunk.*

* I am actually savoring a California Merlot, which would mean that I'm a drunk crank, unless I was Bill Bennett or any other republican, in which case, it's sacramental wine and transforms into Baby Jesus' blood in my mouth. Shit, I have to gag on that mental image.

No offense meant to Catholics, but, come on. It's great in church, but can't you leave it there?
