My stock answer: The last time I checked, a horse couldn't enter into a legally-binding contract, or offer or refuse consent in any way, shape or form. Same with plants, same with inanimate objects. And while we're at it, children can voice consent, but not legally. Ergo, the argument that gay marriage will give rise to marriage to plants/animals/objects/children is bogus.
