I can't believe it. An insightful, pro gay marriage post by a freeper

Like it or not, this is the function of a Supreme Court: to determine if our laws are consistent with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In 1958, only 4% of whites approved of interracial marriage. When interracial marriage was finally made legal ten years later, only 17% of whites approved. Why was it made legal? Because a few “imperialist activist judges,” oh, I mean the U.S. Supreme Court, ruled that it was fundamentally unconstitutional to deny citizens the right to marry the person of their choice. I quote from the court’s decision from this case (Loving v. Virginia, 1967): “Marriage is one of the ‘basic civil rights of man’.... To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State’s citizens of liberty without due process of law.” Replace “race” with “gender” and you’ve got yourself gay marriage.

8. I popped in to FR to see what the reaction was...
Bestiality, necrophilia, pedophilia, polygamy, father-son marriages, all the usual suspects except for the last one, which I hadn't seen before. Never say Freepers aren't creative.

12. WOW!
 This person sure is brave. The average conservative wants government out of your pocket book and in your bedroom. This post reminds me of something that happened at a Canadian gathering of conservatives some years back. The purpose was to try to "unite the right", which at that time was split between the Progressive Conservative Party and the western-based Reform Party. Many Reformers were strong social-conservative Christian evangelicals, opposed to abortion and gay rights.

One of the speakers was Ralph Klein, who was the Premier of Alberta at that time. Among progressives, he's known as something of a redneck clown, but here he made a plea for moderation. He said something about how they can't say they don't want government interference in their lives, and then interfere in people's most private and intimate decisions. This is one time I respected Ralph.

It's funny how freepers can claim to stand for a "Free Republic", and then try to tromp on the freedoms of people who aren't like them.
