Prop 102 is the ANTI-GAY marriage amendment in Arizona.

THAT FUCKING SUCKS

1. It's pretty sad
When you have to complain about the advertisements this close to home. I guess DU really needs the bucks.

3. well yeah i am sure they need some income
and when you buy into an ad service you don't get to pick and choose which will be displayed or where. Best you can do is contact the service and raise a stink to get it pulled from rotation.

2. Become a donor, gain the ability to turn off ads. . .
And don't fret that these idiots are spending money to run their crap on a board they have no hope to sway. The ads are automatically placed according to perceived content, so the more gay issues are discussed here -- and specifically this proposition -- the more likely the ads will appear here. Let 'em waste their efforts here rather than spend on a site with a chance for them to have an impact.

And yes, if you become a donor, you can hide the majority of the ads that appear on this site.

4. "A board they have no hope to sway."
Nah. There are plenty of people here willing to check their progressive values at the door if it means they get to hate gays.

12. Sorry to hear that. . .
As I commented down thread, I rarely read comments on this board, and when I do, most of what I read are threads I contribute to, so I'll take your word that others are proving to be so bigoted on this board.

Sad to hear if that's now the case, but then, I consider this board to have passed into irrelevancy as a voice for progressive issues years ago. My comment here was more a standard one I've used in the past, and was intended to illustrate the nature of internet advertising rather than take sides in any ongoing debates. But as I say, sad to hear there are people here who push such bilge as Prop 8. But again, it's yet another reason why I only skim the headlines on DU and rarely make comments -- just not worth the effort given the sludge you have to wade through at times to make a point.

7. There are a lot of people here at DU pushing Prop 102 and Prop 8 in CA
Search the archives for threads related to Biden's comments about equal marriage in the VP debate, and tell me I'm wrong.

5. I never see any ads on this site or any other site for that matter because
I use the Mozilla Firefox browser with the AdBlock Plus Add-On. If you haven't tried FireFox you might want to give it a go...it's free, and be sure to get the Add-On AdBlock Plus (also free).

Firefox Browser: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/?utm_id=Q108&utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&gclid=CIS8zZ-TmJYCFRJexwodr2Bqmw

AdBlock Plus Add-On: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

I can't remember the last time I opened my Internet Explorer browser.

10. Firefox is wonderful.
I, too, recommend it to people. Thank you for taking the time to include links to the Browser and AdBlock add-on. That was very considerate.

13. I've used FireFox and AdBlock Plus for years
and until I read the OP here I never even knew there were any ads on DU other than the Obama fund raising banner. It works that well, and it's free! What a concept. Thanks much for your kind comment.. :hi:

9. Many here are all for voting "YES on Prop 102."
One need to just do a search of DU threads. Stating biases against GLBT is disgustingly permitted here.

15. I think the ads are selected based on keywords from our website.
So if we're discussing Prop 102, either in the positive or negative, that could potentially bring up an ad about Prop 102 based on automatic keyword searches from the advertisers. I once noticed the same thing happened when there was a lot of chatter about Ann Coulter, and some links to positive stories about her popped up all over the advertisements. It still sucks and I wish there were a better way to control that, but to be honest, I'm not sure how much control the DU admins have over that (other than removing all advertisements altogether).

I second the solution upthread about becoming a donor. It's an easy way to turn off the ads, at least for you. :hi:

They show a big family having some kind of outside gathering like only straight people can be apart of big families?
