2. Never saw that.
I don't think I've seen 1/3rd of those listed. So I think you recommend C.R.A.Z.Y. then? Couldn't you pick a film easier to type?:P

6. LOL...
I haven't seen most either. But yes, I definitely recommend C.R.A.Z.Y.! One of the best movies I've seen.

It's French-Canadian. 2006, I think.

La Cage aux folles

Thanks for mentioning that one. I still recall the advertising when I was a child, and in the reviews in Time. Even something simple like this can move our rights forward.

5. That's a good list, but I wish "Victim" was included.
"Victim" is a groundbreaking film.

7. Best Movie not Mentioned:The History Boys
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_History_Boys_(film)

Best Movie 11-20: Parting Glances

Best Movie 21-30: Boys in the Band ( For the acting and the dialogue, esp.)

Best Movie 30-40: None.

Best Movie 41-50: Tie: The Sum of Us ( an Australian sleeper, as I recall.)
Transamerica ( great flick ; but is it "gay"?)

Worst of the worst: The Birdcage. ( an overrated mishmash of flat jokes, tedious stereotypes and bad acting .... I don't care *who* was in the cast.)

Note: I didn't see about 1/2 of the movies listed. There's probably some good stuff there.

Just my twisted take on things.

9. The real oldies never seem to make these lists. . .
such as Maedchen in Uniform <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maedchen_in_Uniform> and Different from the Rest <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_als_die_Andern>. Or perhaps because these are foreign films.

"Paris is Burning"?

"The Life and Times of Harvey Milk"?

"Trevor"?

Hmm, how interesting.

11. Can we take Rent off, please
That really carries so many stereotypes. The somewhere between transgendered and drag queen Angel. All those gay people with HIV. The cheating bisexual woman. There has to be another movie to take its place ... Cabaret, if you're looking for a musical:
"Screw Maximilian!
I do.
So do I."
Wonderful.

as though that isn't something that afflicted our community. or still afflicts it.

16. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is on there, so I'm happy.
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 12:33 PM by DarkTirade
But Another Gay Movie? I found that to be rather stupid, offensive, repetitive, not at all funny, and that was just the first ten minutes or so that I could bring myself to watch.

Ooh, Victor/Victoria made it too. Nifty. Great movie.

Norma: I think that the right woman could reform you.
Toddy: You know, I think that the right woman could reform you, too.
Norma: Me? Give up men? Forget it!
Toddy: You took the words right out of my mouth.

Victoria: How long have you been a homosexual?
Toddy: How long have you been a soprano?
Victoria: Since I was 12.
Toddy: I was a late bloomer.

17. Another Gay Movie
were you expecting a sensitive nurturing drama about our place in the world? Sometimes we need to laugh at ourselves. It was "over the top", or over the bottom, as the case may be, ergo drag queen mothers, sparking electro pumps, quiche as "our" substitute for apple pie.

It's worth lightening up and having a chuckle. Sometimes silly is funny too.

18. Hah. If you knew who you were talking to you wouldn't feel the need to offer that advice.
I find unfunny, repeptitive, offensive, and pointless things to be... err... unfunny, repetitive, offensive and pointless.

Low-brow humor can have me rolling in the aisles just as much as high-brow does. But only if it's GOOD.

29. I guess it takes all kinds
of definitions. I have enough subtlety and high dudgeon political nuance in my every waking moment that I'm finding a need for coarse humor; that's what makes it GOOD.

All the rest of y'all tantric bastards can breathe, chant and come, but I like the organic version better. :P

The 1933 version, not this current cheesy remake.

Yeah, I know, no gay characters, but if you think anyone EXCEPT gay men watches The Women, well....

33. Beautiful Boxer (based on a true story)
A true story about a Muay Thai boxer who began boxing to help out her family and to get money to pay for her transgender surgery so she could become the woman she meant to be. Here's a wiki link about her life: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nong_Thoom

I saw it for the first time last year and it just blew my socks off. If you get a chance to see it, watch it.
