Tennessee Gov. Mum On Anti-Gay Legislation
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/02/022805tnGov.htm

Gov. Bredesen has yet to take a stance on anti-gay legislation moving rapidly through the Legislature.

Bredesen has said he expects the legislation to pass, calling it "politicking on cultural issues."

The governor said legislators are entitled to do that, but believes other issues concern Tennesseans more.

1. I just moved here to TN....
but isn't the governor kinda a tool? From what I've been hearing he is. I dunno, I just moved here, so I don't have a say yet (still into my Michigan politics). Anyone care to clue me in?

2. I do not think he is a tool. I like him. But the
state legislature has to pander to the rednecks.

3. I like Bredesen...
He would be one of the few Dem Pres candidates who could win over red states. He blew Van Hillary out of the water during the gov debates. Bredesen has a good head on his shoulders.

4. I've liked him so far too, but if he signs onto any of this bigoted
legislation that will be the end of that!

6. It's not just marriage
The amendment is almost certain to go to a general vote next year. That will bypass him, but there are at least 2 bills (possibly 3) that ban gay adoptions and one of them even strips child custody rights from gay parents. Those will require his signature and if he signs any of them to hell with him.

8. marriage is the big issue though
that's the "safest" issue for these people to hide behind

they can say that they're not homophobic but still come out and say that marriage is between a man and a woman blah blah blah

10. Did you notice
that the state pols pushing this amendment intentionally created a bill that would not require the governor's signature. Were they afraid that he wouldn't sign it?
