5. I don't hide it,
but since I do like girls too it's something that doesn't come up in conversation often.

I know at least a couple of people at school know. (outside of the obvious group of people who were in the GLBT Pride Alliance with me. :P )

13. the lone 2 and 3 vote here.
I've been out to my family for well over a decade and a half now. At work, well, I work on a deepwater drilling rig in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. When I got here, I didn't hide it, but didn't announce it either. I'd been here about 6 months before a conversation in the break room came around to asking me if i was married or had a girlfriend. I simply responded.. I'm gay, I've been in a relationship with my boyfriend for 8 years. There was stunned silence.. a few questions, some doubt and disbelief. I still get questioned about it every now and then, but overall it just isn't even discussed. I think I've convinced a pretty large group of rednecks.. for the most part.. that "gay" doesn't all fit into one nice neat stereotypical package.

I picked 2 and 3 because I don't really associate with my neighbors, and never really have other than friendly hello's when out in the yard, but i'm sure they probably know.. don't hide it, but never had occaison to actually "out" myself with em.

15. 2 and 3 for me as well.
I'm not "in" with my neighbors, but I don't really care to talk to them.

17. Yeah, that's pretty much where I am with them too.
We're friendly towards each other, but not much more than the occaisonal friendly wave. On one side we've never even spoken to each other. The other side, we've chatted out front in the yard a few times but not much more than that.

18. I am out to only one family member, and my friends
Edited on Fri May-09-08 06:50 PM by Chovexani
It is kind of an open secret at work, if asked I will not deny it, but I don't talk about my personal life because this is a Right to Work state...they are perfectly free to fire me for my orientation and there isn't a damn thing I can do about it. My company weirdly offers DP benefits but does not include sexual orientation in its anti-discrimination policy.

20. that is strange
maybe you are covered under sexual harassment policy. They can't talk about my being gay but technically could fire me for being gay.

22. To anybody who asks.
My family know, and my close friends - thereafter there are quite a few who've guessed.

Nobody at work knows, there are a few whom I think have guessed. I don't see any point in making a scene, and I know it wouldn't be an issue but I just don't talk about myself. If I got a partner, I'm sure that I'd mention him - but as I'm single there isn't anything to talk about.

23. SO out, darling. SO. OUT.

But then I live in a nice liberal European city with lots of cultural types, it's very easy for people like me. I've no idea what I'd do if confronted with a crowd of determined fuckwits. Run away, I think.

26. I agree
I came about about 3 months after I was sure of my orientation. And those were three months too long... the closet is not a fun place to be.
