After the elections what about Kucinich? what about you and me?
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 10:28 AM by 2beToby
In my fantasy world, he'd be president. He's got my vote, anyway.

But he's probably going to lose. So what happens to him next? After the 2004 elections he seemed to disappear from the national perspective. The man needs a soapbox, a pulpit or SOMETHING to stand on after this election.

I realize this republic is wonky right now, to say the least, but since when are the people suppose to faint over the president? It seems the DU is in a tizzy over who will be the POS. It's great and all, but why is it stopping good discussion about how plain old people can change the country?

I'm bias; I don't think the elections mean much anymore. When you have the electoral college running the show in a country where corporatism is more profitable, elections are bound to be rigged to some extent. So we lost control of the executive branch. We aren't going to get it back by making compromises in the primaries, and we aren't going to get it back by voting our conscience in the primaries or the GE either. So what else can we do?

I ask what can we do for Kucinich because in my opinion, he's shown conviction to freedom, equality and our constitution. But if Kucinich isn't your man, then who do you think should be in the public's eye regardless of political standing? How do we empower these people? I WANT my damn voice back.

I'm posting in GLBT because I believe Kucinich is the only one who has our backs, and I'm pretty sure a lot of people here can relate to that. I'm also posting here because I'm thinking there are some people on here who are no strangers to making change. It's different now, yeah, but as someone born in 1985, I missed all the change. In fact, within a year of my being born, "sodomy" was criminalized and the Pope called gay people evil. I've heard more than one baby boomer saying they did their bit back in the day, now where are generation x and generation y and why aren't they fighting like "we" did? Well, hi, I'm generation y, and you won't believe this, but I'm asking for your wisdom and help. I'm posting this, because I've seen people who don't act like their bit is done.

I don't know about you, but I've got an expensive rent, no job, a useless education and no basic rights to any of them. And I STILL have things to lose. But while I sit here being afraid that getting involved will cost me something, everything I hold dear is being taken away.

So what can we do?

1. An Excellent Question!
What can we do that's not just an opiating exercises and perpetration of the fantasy we call American democracy?

That's the million dollar question. I'll be watching this thread, maybe greater minds than mine will some clue. Because in my view, it won't be until the corporatists destroy this country that we will have any opportunity to rebuild something noble and worth while.

2. Thanks for responding
Greater minds for the win (I hope). Although I'm inclined to agree with you, I can't stand waiting around for them to destroy the place. If it needs to be toppled, at least let it be toppled by those who are dedicated to rebuilding it.

3. For one thing, contribute in some way to his Congressional race
There are Democrats (sponsored by corporations, natch) out to defeat him in the primary. This, to me, shows that the corporate world realizes what a threat he is to them. He needs to keep his House seat.

Then we need to keep up a stream of blogs and videos about him and what he is doing.

Like you, I want Kucinich to be my President.

6. Vote Kucinich in the primary...
I want whoever the eventual candidate is to know that Dennis' postions must be considered in the platform.
