R.I. AG: Sister's marriage had no effect on gay marriage opinion
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The older sister of Attorney General Patrick Lynch wed her longtime partner last week, just days before Lynch issued an advisory opinion saying Rhode Island should recognize same-sex marriages performed in Massachusetts.

Lynch attended the Feb. 15 wedding in Attleboro, Mass., of his sister Margaret, the Pawtucket city solicitor, to her partner of 18 years. He said his legal opinion, which is not binding and was issued in response to a question from a state agency, had nothing to do with his sister's relationship.

"No disrespect to my sister, who I love very much, but it has zero impact on it," Lynch told The Providence Journal, saying his opinion was based on legal research and was well-grounded.

Lynch's sister and her partner, Patricia, now share the same last name: Lynch-Gadaleta. The couple has 7-year-old twin daughters.
