Consider our sexuality a gift from the Creator
As a Christian pastor for more than 30 years, my heart goes out to Ted Haggard, a fellow pastor caught between the righteousness he proclaims and the gay reality he lives.

As the father of a gay daughter, however, I’d also like to ask whether Rev. Haggard’s behavior doesn’t make a point.

Central to those who find homosexual behavior immoral is the supposition of choice. Their view is that people living the gay lifestyle have simply made an immoral life choice.

Further, they argue that as Christians they have a moral duty to help prevent people from making such choices by removing any social benefits or commendations (such as the right to marry a same-sex partner) our society might offer.

My life experiences with my daughter don’t support that underlying supposition of choice. As a pastor’s kid, our daughter grew up in a typical struggling but loving family. My wife and I weren’t perfect parents, but we were not absent or uncaring parents either.

1. OK it's better than fundamentalism ...
... but it's still Jesus-ventriloquism.

but, it's nice to hear and I'm happy that he could see it early on in her development.

4. very well put
I am so tired of hearing negative comments from other Christians about people who are gay. This was well put and exactly what needed to be said. I am a liberal christian and I am preparing to go into the ministry. When I was finishing up my undergraduate degree at oklahoma state I met a guy named Charles. We wrote editorials for the student newspaper and we became friends. He has all of the "fruits of the spirit" that are listed in the bible (love, joy, peace, paitence, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control). Oh yeah, Charles is gay.

My former church says that he is going to hell, but if you have the fruits of the spirit.....that means you have the spirit of God inside of you....and that means you are a child of God, right? Yes, of course that's what it means. Of course, that's why I am not a southern baptist anymore and I became a unitarian universalist!
