2. Um, like, yeah...
...if you give a damn about the difference between Foley jokes and queer jokes.

3. Sorry! I haven't read the Foley shit.
Really, I am sorry if I offended. Just call me uninformed...

7. I won't jump on you. But I will explain it.
I'm all for going for Foley's jugular, for the two reasons Viva_La_Revolution cites: He's a repuke, and a flaming hypocrite -- and what's worse, he's a "family values" repuke, who voted in favor of the "Defense of Marriage Act"... before he was involuntarily outed.

If someone wants to joke about Foley's appalling hypocrisy, that's fine with me -- I encourage it, and I do it myself (see: http://www.lavenderliberal.com/conservativebabylon/foley.php ).

What I object to is joking about being gay. That's what's not cool.

A hypocrite is a hypocrite is a hypocrite, and I am all for calling out hypocrites.

But the "gay is bad" game does not work with me (or with most gay DUers, for that matter), and I will slap it down quicker than you can say "Victor Ashe".

See the difference?

10. I see the difference, and can assure you
that this hypocrisy does not sit well with me. I have my own shit to deal with: Senators Snowe and Collins. Both repukes who say one thing and vote another, just like our man Foley.

To tell the truth, these people mystify me.

4. actually yes... he's fair game
cause he's a repuglican, and he denies his own sexuality.

That's 2 sins as far as I'm concerned.

5. Shit yeah.
I know the basics. It's the "bend over" I didn't get. Thank you for accepting (I presume) my apology.

6. NO NO NO
He is not denying his sexuality! He is not a homosexual he is a pedophile.

There is a difference between being gay and chasing after underage boys. Please figure it out! To do less is insultive!

8. There, you said it.
It's not about being gay, but about being a hypocrite. And a pedophile.

9. hey now! perhaps his sexuality is pedophilia?
In which case, he needs treatment (preferably in a 'secure' facility).

He's still denying, which ever way his boat floats.

11. The thread you link to has apparently been deleted
I really, really wish DU didn't do this. It's enough to lock a thread. I like to see for myself WHY a thread has been locked. Once or twice, I've been the cause of a thread being locked.

Deleting an entire thread, OTOH, smacks of outright censorship, unless for some reason there's liability involved. I hughly doubt that, but not completely- people, including myself, are known to go overboard on occasion, or often, as circumstances, to them, demand.

That said: I'm gay, and I bloody well WANT to know what people who come here and spew antigay posts are saying. DON'T delete their threads! having their words out, in the open, is the single best way to silence them!

It's a little bit like how I feel about gay-tolerant christian (sic) congregations voting to 'seperate' themselves from the homophobic congregants- or, how I feel about a 'majority' of homophobic congregants voting to form their own church, which agrees with their antigay stance. You shouldn't be allowing them to do so: by giving them a seperate place to hate, you have only made them stronger.

"Dems are against free speech!!!!11111" will be the content of at least ONE post on a con blog tonight. Id like to respond to their pap- but, the thread has, apparently, been deleted. I for one couldn't find it- not that that's YOUR fault. I know better.

Skinner, a proposal: a 'deleted threads' forum. Something we can chuckle at while the trolls are trolling or DU is down, maybe something on a seperate server?

Or, given the likely content, perhaps not......

I guess my point is, I just don't much care for deleted threads.

12. I've stayed away from those threads because I could already foresee
getting into a flamewar.

But I do wonder how the response might have been different if Foley had pursued a 16 y/o girl, for instance. And I knew the gay jokes were inevitable.

As if it's not bad enough that freeps are already trying to twist this into the old gay=pedophile bullshit to deflect responsibility for their glaring hypocrisy (what else is new).
