Sacramento Presbyterians to meet on gay clergy dispute
http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/20609.html

As pastor of the largest Presbyterian church in the Sacramento area, Henry Wells has heard from a lot of angry church members in recent months.

"I've never seen it like this," Wells said.

Many churchgoers at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church are upset with a controversial decision at a national conference in June to give local Presbyterian districts leeway to ordain gay clergy.

1. I would suggest that those angered by the ordination of gay clergy
be told to haul their bigoted asses from the premises.

Let them break away. Why would the forward-looking, inclusive Presbyterians want these people around, anyhow? They sound like assholes.

Let them start their own church: First Breakaway Assholes Church, or maybe Dark Ages Bigots Tabernacle.

3. Well, I'm, uh... very closely attached to one...very forward-looking to
put up with me, anyway.

Omega Minimo! Good afternoon! Nice to see ya.

Now comes the turn into fall, and now the big blue House falls on the wicked witch of the Republicans.

We will get some too-conservative Democrats in the bargain, but if Bush's majority can be weakened or erased, I'm for it.

Hope you're doin' well.

5. Hey there. I ordered a new copy of Joan Didion's novel DEMOCRACY
on Abebooks. The old one was in tatters.

And have been re-reading it with great pleasure.

Wow. I was always a Didion fan. Now I'm absolutely ga-ga. How can a perfect text get even better?

I hope your free time is ample and on your own terms, good person. Keep all the fires ablaze.

for the blessings, Friend Crusoe. Reading "Surrealism and The Sacred." Ample fires, all cylinders.

6. How does it help the gay community at all ...
... to be infested with Jesus impersonators?

Let's put on the Jesus suit and make it look like our opinions come from Jesus. Yeah that's the ticket.

How about we leave that nonsense to the right wingers?

8. Your attitude does not help
Whether you like it or not, there are a lot of Christians in this country and we need to change the attitudes of the more moderate ones if we are to win the battle for our civil rights. You can't expect Christians to ever accept you if you're going to denigrate their religion as a whole. Sure, the right-wing ones are bad, but the more sane branches like Presbyterians are changing. I was raised Presbyterian (although I'm not Christian anymore) and they are not fundy nut jobs. It's a pretty open denomination with just a few hold outs in certain congregations and in the leadership. Oh, and some gay people ARE Christians themselves and actually want to be members of the clergy, and they should have opportunities to do that.
