"Family-values" candidate shuts out gay son
Randall Terry, a right-wing Christian leader, doesn't run away from "family-values issues" in his Florida state Senate race, but his gay son, Jamiel, says things are not what they seem.

Among the senior Terry's pledges are preserving traditional marriage and opposing adoptions by gay men and lesbians. He has touted efforts to stop abortions. His campaign mailers sum up the value he puts on family: They show a picture of him with his wife, a daughter, and three grinning young sons -- taken before a fourth was born this summer.

But Jamiel, Terry's adopted son, says the picture is missing two people -- him and his sister, Tila, also adopted. Both have been estranged from Terry since Jamiel came out as a gay man and Tila had a child out of wedlock.

<snip>

Randall Terry said he's upfront about his whole family and has never tried to hide anything about his children, even those with whom he has deep disagreements.

He said voters don't care anyway. ...

1. Rather reminiscent of Alan Keyes' run two years ago
maybe these people should focus on their own families. Ya think?

4. I know that it's easy for me to say having a civil relationship with my
dad but....

it just seems like Jamiel and Tila are better off without having to worry about pleasing/having a relationship with their prick of a fundie father.

At one time, Randall Terry actually did a nice thing adopting these children and giving them a home.

But now, his behavior in shunning them is cruel and nothing short of child abuse, IMO.

(THAT's FUCKED UP, poor guy)

=======================================

RANDALL - ASS CLOWN

JAMIEL - DECENT SON

BTW, It's easy to see who carries the looks in that family, don't you think? ;)

Yea yea, cheap shot but :wtf:

5. That is so heartbreaking and so infuriating
that anybody should cry themselves to sleep begging for their perfectly natural feelings to be taken away from them. This is what bigotry and hatred do to people. I get so angry at people who cause this kind of pain in their children and other family members because of their "religion" or whatever. It's so hard not to tell them off with profuse use of expletives, the hateful jagoffs.

Did he do a 'nice' thing or was it for show when the opponents of his Operation Rescue started asking him how many unaborted unwanted babies HE had adopted? I would think shunning them now is a lot kinder than what they went through living in his house.

6. Typical...
...repuke family values. But because he adopted them he probably doesn't feel a thing for them, so doesn't care one way or the other.

What a drop kick!

7. "Family" to them only includes family members who follow their dictates
"Family" to a Liberal means something much more encompassing, and much closer to unconditional love (often including unconditional love). Now who has the real Family Values?

11. Sounds like a republican - ignore the inconvenient
If you pretend it doesn't exist then your followers will too.

This breaks my heart. I'm guessing the mother is all for it or a spineless wimp, both such wonderful qualities in a mother.

I wonder the same thing about my nieces and nephew as my sister and her husband are wacko nut jobs - I asked her what she would do if one of her five children were gay and I got the "hate the sin not the sinner" bullshit speech. I occasionally slip into general conversation to the kids that my door is always open to them. Four of them are quite young, but then again most people know their homosexual quite young.
I don't really have a reason to 'suspect' this will happen but I also see one that doesn't seem to be buying the whole 'religion is everything' bit either. Which would be another big no-no.

12. What a shame
These fundie assholes make me sick. When I first came out; my mother was a born again and tried to sway me, but after hearing and seeing these types of people, she became very furious and surprisingly very supportive. I was very lucky to be where I'm at and nobody judging me. I can't imagine what goes through some ones mind when they come out and face this type of garbage. In the end tho; the people who treat us like 2nd class citizens will get theirs.....
