My Latest Copy Of The Advocate Magazine Just Arrived...
... and it's a WHOPPING sixty-four pages long! :wtf:

It keeps getting thinner and thinner. It's transformed from being a comprehensive news magazine to a pamphlet (with over 50% of the space dedicated to advertisements.)

A recent "SPECIAL DOUBLE-ISSUE" was the same size as what the regular issues used to be like. I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth subscribing to anymore.

Are they splitting their content between the pages of the Advocate and the pages of their recently acquired "Out" magazine?

Am I expecting too much?

1. Seems like they should have more to say...
I just read a couple of good books. Sometimes reading material just falls in my lap. First I read Running with Scissors, which had a most lovable young character. When I finished, I read, The Boys of Boise, which is rather old but politically very fascinating. A real witch hunt, right here in River City. Since it took place in 1955 there are references to McCarthyism and Communism. In most cases you could remove the word Communism and replace it with Terrorism. It's still the same lame Republican fear tactics in a shiny new wrapper. BTW, hope your magazine improves. There are so many important issues about 'rights' that will have influence everyone.

2. is it 50% LESS expensive then, as in value down, price = down?
do they still mostly put heterosexual celebrities on the cover to try and boost sales outside the glbt community?

3. I'm disappointed that it seems to shy away from politics anymore.
Going more for the 20-something randy hunk. Lots more lesbian stuff than before though.

4. I sure don't think they're sharing the content with "Out"
Since "Out" is basically nothing more than a damn fashion layout nowadays. "Out" is a complete waste of pulp. In my humble opinion.

I've noticed that about "The Advocate". I think it changed with the new editor change. "The Advocate" was more "meatier" (for lack of a better word) when Judy Weidlen (I think that was the name of the previous "Advocate" editor) was in charge.

Of course, I could be completely full of shit, also.

5. Drug companies are not getting as much for their ad dollars anymore....
so they're going elsewhere. Haven't seen one in years, but I bet at least 50% of those ads are bigPharma. That's what turned me off years ago. Not only that, but MSM seems to have no problem with gay-related stories anymore. Don't forget the Advocate used to be the only source for great articles on the GLBT community. That has become less and less true. They're sort of a victim of their own- and the community's- success.

8. My uncle got the Advocate and I used to read his
copies. I was not impressed. The ads seemed to cater to upper middle class people.

9. Another shout out to FReeper Dane
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/1687425/posts

Hey, aren't your fellow FReepers beginning to wonder about all your attention to this GLBT forum? This is your second post in less than a week in which you refer them to a thread here.

So, Dane, which are you? G? L? B? T? C'mon, confession is good for the soul.

10. You know, I'm pretty gay.
And by pretty I mean cute. Some say downright handsome. And queer.

But when we say that Freeper Dane hanging on a gay forum is pretty gay, what we mean is that lonely wannabe fudge-packing butt-pirate ass-jockey bug-eating manbitch is ugly to the boner.

Pardon my color, but I had to pop him in the pooper.
