Anti-gay idiots in Cincinnati give up their battle
It may seem like a small victory, but from the city that gave us the likes of Blackwell, Schmidt and Taft, it's an important one.

Anti-gay rights group gives up
Lack of signatures will keep referendum off ballot
BY DAN KLEPAL | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Gay people will soon be protected against discrimination in the city of Cincinnati, for the first time since 1992.

Equal Rights Not Special Rights, a group involved in a petition drive to force a referendum on whether gays should be protected against discrimination in employment and housing under the city's Human Rights Ordinance, withdrew its petitions Tuesday and requested that the referendum not be placed on the ballot in November, or in any future election.

That decision ends a 14-year battle over whether gays should be protected as a class of people - a fight that caused Cincinnati to be viewed by many people around the country as intolerant.

"This shows how much the city has changed," said Gary Wright, co-chairman of a group called Citizens to Restore Fairness, which is in favor of protecting gays. "This is a very important victory and is exactly the outcome we were looking for."

1. Cincinnati is a strikingly beautiful city that often falls into the hands
of right-wing nutcases like the 3 you mentioned.

You bring good news. I hope the trend continues upward.

I would love it if Cincinnati went blue in 06.

Edmund White is from Cincinnati, isn't he? I wonder if he knows about this.

2. Damn you gays and your "special rights"!
Like the right to have a job and a house! Who do you think you are?

I have a dream - that one day, oppressed white Christian males will be afforded the same rights as the ruling gay overclass!

In all seriousness, though, to 'Equal Rights Not Special Rights' - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Losers.

3. I just saw that this morning
"special rights" seems to be the cry from people who have never known what it is like to not have equal rights. It's such BS.

When I moved here, my friends warned me that Cinci was überconservative. I figure it just needs more folks like me. :)

And honestly, where I live it is not at all, but I wil say you'll still see "W" stickers here, although I have yet to understand how anyone could have supported him in 2000 much less still support him.
