Utah Governor Vetoes Anti-Gay Parenting Bill
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/03/032206utah.htm

Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. has vetoed a bill that would prevent a court from awarding parental rights against the wishes of the biological or adoptive parent.

The legislation stemmed from a case that made international headlines in 2004 when a judge awarded visitation rights to the former lesbian partner of the child's birth mother who claims to have turned straight after "getting religion".

The case, Jones v Barlow, is now before the Utah Supreme Court.

Keri Lynn Jones and Cheryl Pike Barlow met in 2000 and were together about three years

3. My sentiments exactly.
Good for the governor. This law would be a shitstorm waiting to happen on so many levels, not to mention its outright bigoted basis.

2. What a stupid law that would have been
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 03:56 PM by Warpy
How many divorced couples never want to see each other after the split, to the point the custodial parent would prevent visitation if s/he could?

What an incredibly stupid, poorly thought out law that was, just to keep a "former lesbian" from visiting a kid she helped raise.

Kids are resilient enough to withstand a lot of religious rubbish in their early lives and "former" gays of both sexes often find the conversion is temporary, at best.
