Oh good, something else I'm now all pissed off about
The Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Michael Hayden, said on ABC's This Week said they don't have enough translators.

Oh really, gee, I wonder why?

It's because they're being kicked out of the military because they're gay you stupid bitch. :argh: :grr:

SAN FRANCISCO - The number of Arabic linguists discharged from the military for violating its "don't ask, don't tell" policy is higher than previously reported, according to records obtained by a research group.

The group contends the records show that the military — at a time when it and U.S. intelligence agencies don't have enough Arabic speakers — is putting its anti-gay stance ahead of national security.

Between 1998 and 2004, the military discharged 20 Arabic and six Farsi speakers, according to Department of Defense data obtained by the Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military under a Freedom of Information Act request.

The military previously confirmed that seven translators who specialized in Arabic had been discharged between 1998 and 2003 because they were gay. The military did not break down the discharges by year, but said some, but not all, of the additional 13 discharges of Arabic speakers occurred in 2004.

1. You think you're pissed now? Wait until you hear them try and spin it
around and say:

"That's right! You see how gay people are helping the terrorists? It's their fault they're gay and are getting fired, not the military's. If they weren't gay, they could be fighting the terrorists - but as it stands, they wasted the military's money by keeping their orientation secret while military trains them. Then they get hired to translate only to 'let the cat outta the bag' later - leaving the military no other choice than to fire them. Yeah, way to serve your country!"

At which point, I throw my hands up in the air and my head explodes. By the way, I don't speak to that person very much any more.:patriot:

3. I laugh at the "hatriotic" homophobes
They give me the whole song-and-dance about why it was Necessary-with-a-capital-N to fire all the gay translators, and I laugh in their bigoted faces.

Sometimes, when I have the presence of mind to do so, I'll say something like, "Right -- let's see how well that works the next time al-Qaeda attacks us. Will you be able to explain it as well to the NEXT 3000 people who die? How will you spin your personal moral sensitivity to the families and friends of the victims? Hmmm?"

The American People are getting sick of this nonsense. It's not too hard to understand, deal with, or reconcile those who have vague, undefinable anxieties about gays and gayness. The ones who have spun out a whole ideology of Godly hate are the ones who are dangerous.

Get a few beers in them, and the next thing you know, they're the President of the United States.

6. it's pathetic -- the 50's all over again.
the stupidity this shows -- gay folk are brave enough to help bring down an airliner before it crashes into it's target -- but they can't serve the country as translators.

oh AND ''get your war on'' cheney has a daughter collecting rnc paychecks and she's a big lez.

7. I have never understood
the 'well, if you're gay you're open to blackmail by hostile forces' thinking. If you're open about it...ALLOWED to be open about it...how can you be blackmailed?

8. it's just an excuse.
it's not like our enemies aren't intelligent -- they are -- they do know better.

they are using us.

we make a mistake if we understand their reasoning any other way.

9. Well, if they don't have enough translators........
how can they expect to translate all of the intelligence gleaned from their illegal spying on American citizens?
So, we're destroying the Constitution just so we can have tons of "intelligence" setting around that no one can read and use?
Makes perfect sense to me in bushAmerica. :eyes:
