Loathing gay culture, not me
LIKE ANY COLUMNIST, I get my share of angry letters from people who disagree with my point of view. But more than a few messages contain obscenity-laced personal attacks that are disturbing in their hateful ferocity.

Because I have a thick skin, these comments never have their intended effect, but I have grown weary with one particular aspect of the criticism.

I am continually perplexed at the suggestion that I am "self-loathing." Several writers have compared me to Jews who worked for the Nazis during the Third Reich.

I am beginning to understand that the term is code meant to disparage gays who are conservative, Republican or Christian. The implication is that because these people tend to regard their sexuality as a private matter and don't make it the focus of their entire existence, they suffer from internalized homophobia.

Wah wah waaaaaah! More pissing and moaning from former $200 an hour man whore turned fake White House correspondent turned complete right-wing loser Jeff Gannon/James Guckert/"Bulldog." This guy gives new meaning to the word "Whore-moan" ... oops! I mean "hormone," of course.

1. When I hear this sort of stuff....
"The implication is that because these people tend to regard their sexuality as a private matter and don't make it the focus of their entire existence, they suffer from internalized homophobia"

I sort of smile. Yes...we're all supposed to consider being gay, lesbian, bi, transgender as a "private matter". That's code for "stay in the closet and shut up about it" And yes, that is internalized homophobia. It sure as hell is to me.

Well, no, Jeff baby. I'm gay and it is a part of my being. And yes, I will be open about it.

2. Poor Jeffie has been hanging with the wrong crowd.
Actually, in his case it is the crowd he is drawn to. That alone makes a case for his own homophobia.

6. This man continues to be a mental case
I mean...a hooka who advertises his sexuality for pay doesn't have much business talking about how good and holy and moral and wonderful a good christian Republican gay boy is. And you notice how he ignores the issue that sexuality IS important - the government apparently uses it to limit access to all kinds of things, like making health decisions, planning a funeral, handling your own assets with a partner.

Ok. . .now I'm still waiting for the part where the Washington Blade can explain how Jeff Gannon can be a journalist.

8. PLEASE tell me that Jeff Gannon OWNS the Washington Blade!
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 10:27 PM by rocknation
Who in their right minds would HIRE him to write? He has no integrity, no credibility, and no trustworthiness. Doesn't the Washington Blade care about that, or is he sleeping with the publisher?

On edit: By the way, has Gannon actually ADMITTED that he's gay? Assuming that he is because just because he writes for a gay publication just wouldn't be politically correct!

15. He also has no real journalistic credentials.
He's like a self-manufactured "celebrity" who really has never done anything noteworthy, but believes he is a star just because. . . you know, like all those people who used to appear on game shows as a "personality" but who had never really done or been anything.

10. He projects the poor image of himself on to the rest of us.
I had a great New Years. No sea of shirtless perfect bodies. I nice dinner party with about 20 gay men in their 40s/50s. Half of us partnered (some traveled to Canada or MA to get married) for over 15 years (me, 19). A really nice time.

Jeff exists in a private ghetto so it's no wonder he sees all other gay people living there as well. As he gets older, he will begin to grasp the narrowness of his mind.
