Liberals battling to remain in power accused Conservative leader Stephen Harper on Thursday of supporting an extremist group that equates gays with pedophiles and assails same-sex marriage.

In a press release Thursday the Liberal Party attacks Harper for speaking at a large fundraising dinner in Richmond, British Columbia last March for the Canadian Alliance for Social Justice and Family Values Association.

Harper was joined at the event by three other prominent Conservatives. The fundraiser brought in $15,000 that was used in newspaper ads denouncing same-sex marriage.

The July/August edition of the organization's publication carried a caricature on its cover portraying Liberal Prime Minister Minister Paul Martin as a Nazi receiving an award from Hitler for “the destruction of Canada’s foundational institution (family).” The group also published a similar illustration of former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, also a Liberal.
