just in case y'all are interested...
Few issues have repeatedly taken center stage in recent years as the questions involving gays and lesbians in society. Whether it is “Brokeback Mountain,” the questioning of a Supreme Court nominee or the latest squabble over same-sex marriage, the debate is heated and pervasive.
Most often what drives this controversy is people’s religious belief. Yet there is vast ignorance about gays and religion in both the gay and straight communities, the political arena, the religious world and even the media. The amount of misinformation and stereotypes on both the pro and con sides of the issues is staggering.
Whether you are a reporter, a politician, a member of the clergy, a concerned citizen, or a gay person struggling with the issue yourself, there has been no single place you could go to get comprehensive information from all faiths and on all views.
On Thursday of next week, January 19, we will launch a website unlike anything that has been available on the Internet before. The result of hundreds of hours of work over twelve months and extensive Beta testing, the site had over 100 links and thousands of pages of material discussing not only Christianity, but also Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and other faiths.
This news release will not be about another meeting, another statement or position paper, another speaker or conference, but the immediate release of the most comprehensive and diverse source of information on gays and religion ever created.
ReligionAndGays.org is a non-partisan; non-sectarian public service provided by the Florida GLBT Democratic Caucus and will be promoted nationally by a variety of organizations.
Why are we telling you a week in advance:
We wanted to give you a heads up before the release date of January 19 so you might have the proper time to prepare a story, and also to make available to you people for interviews.
To see for yourself how comprehensive, user-friendly and varied this new information source is, visit it at www.religionandgays.org, BUT PLEASE NO STORIES ABOUT IT UNTIL AT LEAST THURSDAY, JANUARY 19.
