Charles Socarides dies
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 05:14 PM by terrya
Sadly, his attitudes didn't change after his son came out as gay.

Controversial Dr. Charles Socarides dies at age 83

Dr. Charles Socarides—an influential and infamous psychiatrist who came under heavy criticism for his belief that gay men and lesbians could be "treated" and turned straight—died on Sunday in New York. He was 83 and the cause was heart failure, his wife told the New York Times.

Socarides, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, was reviled by gay rights groups who denounced the half-dozen books on homosexuality that he wrote, including "The Overt Homosexual," published in 1968. He was also the father of Richard Socarides, the out liaison to the gay and lesbian community in the Clinton Adminstration.

In 1992, Charles Socarides co-founded the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality whose mission is to ''to make effective psychological therapy available to all homosexual men and women who seek change,'' according to its Web site.

In his 1995 book "Homosexuality: A Freedom Too Far," Socarides said that the gay rights movement "takes deadly aim on the primary unit in society, the family. Second, it is eliminating one of the very obvious, but very key factors in the making of a civilization: the fact that one generation succeeds another generation. Third, the very fact of AIDS is the same-sex movement's

1. Ever notice....
... That the most vociferous opponents to equal rights for gay people are either themselves gay or have a close family member who is gay?

I have to wonder, what's hiding in Pat Roberton's and James Dobson's closet?

2. Well great! Of course, I'm sorry for the family's loss and grieving, but
after all is said and done, it will start up again whether it is a choice or people are born to be homosexual. The churches will start up again with their judgemental views claiming they know what God knows. Then on and on and on.

This gives the Right an opportunity to totally change the agenda and try to get everyone's attention off of New Orleans, spying on Americans, torture, the Iraqi war, more deaths.

They may divert our attention a little while, but I hope we do continue pressuring this president and VP regarding spying (wiretapping).

It's like that doctor stated on CNN. He said something like,

'George W. Bush is the only sitting president to admit publicly several times an impeachable act that he committed.'

I love this quote. Think I'm going to use it in my signature.

Now who is dumb?

3. Four hetero marriages. And he thought ....
homosexuality " takes deadly aim at... the family unit".

The Dr. sounds just a bit conflicted.

5. now who said....?
Now who said, "I've never wished a man dead but I have read many an obituary with pleasure"?

Socarides has done a lot of harm in his lifetime.
