Pope Chastises Envoy Over Gay Unions
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon05/12/122705vatican.htm

Britain's first Catholic ambassador to the Vatican since the Reformation presented his credentials to Pope Benedict on Tuesday and received a diplomatic slap over same-sex unions.

Without mentioning civil partnerships by name the Pontiff told Francis Campbell that promoting tolerance and respect must take into account God's plan for humanity, which includes protecting all life and safeguarding the family.

It requires us to acknowledge the indispensable role of stable marriage and family life for the good of society," Pope Benedict said.

He went on to tell Campbell that human freedom "can never be realized independently of God but only in cooperation with his loving plan for humanity."

9. Oh come on now, you photoshopped that face didn't you?
We're not supposed to "judge a book by its cover" and I'm working on it now, but it's hard to imagine empathy and affection written in that visage.

.... though they probably don't claim me anymore, since I'm one of those Liberal "Cafeteria Catholics" and I don't go to Mass anymore.

4. "Safeguarding the family"? Talk about The Pope calling the kettle black!
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 11:30 AM by IanDB1
The Vatican has absolutely no right to tell anyone how to protect children.

If they want to protect children, they should start by not letting them near priests.

By the church's own figuring, 7% of their priests have credible sex abuse claims against them.

And that's the number they're willing to admit to.

If I knew that someone was 7% likely to molest my kids...

Well, we need to pass a constitutional amendment requiring people to be over 18 before they're allowed to become Catholic.

To protect the children, of course.

5. World Governments just need to stop recognizing the Vatican
As having any sort of government authority. Yes, treat the Pope nicely when he comes to visit but let him know that unless the Vatican has first strike nuclear capability then he can stop trying to mess around with how our government should be run, thanks very much, love the little red shoes, buh-bye now.

8. I say we invade them now then!
We can let the Pope get away then a few months later, we can have a big publicity barrage where our troops pull him out of a rathole - his big pointy hat all dirty and torn; his robes no longer sparkling white; his scepter all dinged up, and him sporting a crappy looking beard.

Then we can take pictures of him in his briefs while in prison.

7. Their argument that sex is for procreation alone assumes
having babies contributes to the survival of the species. Perhaps the opposite of that is true. Too many people having too many babies, often for the purpose of enslaving one another emotionally and economically is not a recipe for survival.

12. What's all this about gay unions?
The worldwide labor movement should not discriminate based on sexual preference and back unions that are open to all, gay or straight.

Oh.

Nevermind.
