Group derides 'bizarre,' 'leftist' courses
Students are paying an average $21,000 in annual tuition to attend the nation's colleges, which teach subjects such as the "unbearable whiteness" of Barbie dolls and "same-sex eroticism" in Renaissance Europe.

Those courses -- at Occidental College in Los Angeles and Princeton University, respectively -- were among the "most bizarre and troubling instances of leftist activism supplanting traditional scholarship" at U.S. colleges and universities named this year to the "Dirty Dozen" list by Young America's Foundation.

The Herndon-based conservative youth group also singled out for criticism courses such as "Lesbian Novels Since World War II" (Swarthmore), "Marxist Concepts of Racism" (Harvard) and "Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll in Ancient Egypt" (Johns Hopkins).

"We researched over 55 courses, and we gleaned 12 of the most outrageous," YAF spokesman Jason Mattera said Wednesday. "We've been doing these lists for a good seven years" to demonstrate what is being taught in contemporary higher education.

Seeing as how this story's from the Moonie-owned Washington Times, take it with a grain of salt (or the whole friggin' salt mine, as the case may be).

1. I agree...
...let's not expose college students to new ways of thinking about issues...

3. I guess if they excerpted teachings of Jesus and put them into a
college course, they would call it a bizarre leftist course.

6. That would be comical
"Peace 101" - a whole semester of discussions about peace, based on "lefty" catchphrases.

And the final exam: "Name the scripture references where each of the following topics (taught during the semester) are in the bible, where we got them . . ."

4. I love the name "Young America's Foundation"
Kinda sounds like they're an offshoot of "Hitler Youth".

5. Because of course they're mandatory
and students are FORCED to take these courses. I'm sure they're not electives that can be chosen by the students. God forbid we have new and interesting classes in higher education. The sky is falling!
:sarcasm:

8. Perhaps "conservative" students need to be barred from enrollment
since it is obvious they have difficulty embracing the notion of developing critical thinking skills. Maybe they should just enter the workforce at a level more appropriate to their intellect, (and without using rich parents' connections) and find some menial labor that will enrich their paltry lives.

It is interesting to notice that they view studying other people as "leftist" - but even more interesting that they are adamantly opposed to studying themselves (as in whiteness). Send these clowns to the junior college so they can earn a trade and become productive. Or better yet, let's send them emails with links to military recruitment. They obviously need some good career counseling.

10. Ahhh, the old YAF (Young Americans for Fascism) rears its ugly head again
We clashed with them during the Vietnam war, they were prowar and they thought Nixon was too liberal.

11. Just more rightist twaddle
They want to return to the day when students were forced to take courses on religion and attend daily mass. Since they can't, all they can do is piss and moan about the electives that nobody need take if they don't want to. It seems that the party that claims to be all about choice is really all about eliminating it.
