I still like that movie and think it's pretty funny. Kline did a great job in the role. And I had forgotten Bob Newhart was in it.

Call me a lightweight if you must.

(Is this thread not serious enough for this forum?) :hi:

1. LOL ... it's OK to lighten up sometimes
We can't be always discuss "Foucaultian theory in light of social constructionist vs. assimilationist paradigms" all the time.

I have to admit upfront that "In & Out" isn't my favorite movie ... but it does have a few funny scenes. I still get a pick out of all the references to Cher and the scene of Kevin Kline dancing.

2. Just saw it again the other night.
It's not half as offensive as I remember it being (although I hate seeing RWer Tom Selleck play gay!), and has some good moments.

But I'm sucker for just about anything with Bob Newhart and/or Debbie Reynolds. :)

Btw, if you like gay comedy with some genuinely touching moments, have you ever seen "Jeffrey"? Or, better yet, "The Wedding Banquet"?

P.S. Light good! Need MORE light!

3. Ooooooooh! Jeffrey!
That was a good movie! My favorite line is Patrick Stewart's as he's wrapping sweaters around his shoulders: "I look like a gay superhero."

Two other gay comedies I really like are All Over the Guy (about a blind date arranged by the two main characters' straight friends and its aftermath) and Big Eden (sort of a lightweight Brokeback Mountain about a New Yorker who goes back to his small hometown in Wyoming expecting to rekindle a romance with the guy he had a crush on in high school).

4. Yes!
Stewart is absolutely fantastic playing gay, and the "gay superhero" line is a classic!

And "Jeffery" overall is just very sweet -- and oh-so-New York (a big plus). I'm such a softie, the "Heaven" scene gets me every single time -- but at the end I go away feeling happy and hopeful. (And the dude chasing Jeffrey? What a hottie. He reminds me, type-wise, of Keith Prentice -- Larry in "Boys in the Band" -- kinda too slick, but irresistible.)

Speaking of Stewart (and we were)... You know what other straight (at least I think he is) actor has several really wonderful gay roles under his belt: Bruce Davison. Every time I turn around, he's gay. LOL Outstanding among the lot for me is "Longtime Companion," which is the film I want when I'm in the mood to bawl my head off.

I've heard of "All Over the Guy" (the reviews sound good), but not "Big Eden." I have to get back up to speed on my gay movies.

6. I love Big Eden!!
It's one of my favorites! Probably because it's not set in a big city so all the stereotypical "gay" things are not inlcuded! Just one tiny correction kweerwolf.. it's set in Montana, not Wyoming, and was actually filmed inside Glacier National Park (one of my favorite places in Montana!). Yes, it's lightweight, and yes, totally unrealistic in the depiction of the community's acceptance and tolerance, but maybe it's trying to show us what kind of world we COULD have, any day now......

8. LOVED "Big Eden"
Yes, unrealistic, but it's easy to get into the story. When I saw it with an audience, the humor really got everyone going. I think we all laughed pretty hard at that one, which made the poignant scenes even more enjoyable. That it depicts a place that we'd all wish was real and even could be real made it "Eden."

7. It's been a while since I saw "Jeffrey" but I remember
liking it very much. I should watch it again soon.

One of my all-time favorites is "The Incredibly True Adventures of 2 Girls in Love" which is more comedy than anything else, but it's about 2 teenage girls trying to get together. I love the ending of that movie especially.

5. Watching it right now!
Commercial break. I've never seen it before, and am laughing my ass off.
