1. Actually, I think we need to ignore DU3 more
It's all about hating, bickering, and fighting. It does no good for the party or for morale. :(

6. I agree... and I don't. :)
I'm on the fence, lbrtbell -- not about DU3, but about paying attention to things that... hmmm... that raise my blood pressure. I mean, do I save my health/sanity by picking and choosing what I read, or do I pay attention to everything, including those things that may make my skull implode for the sake of knowing what is being said?

Rhetorical question -- because I don't know the answer myself.

One thing I do know: It's less painful to be exposed to the blatant hatred of, say, Brian Fisher, than it is to see something like this go to "jury," and NOT be hidden (which makes me wonder, as it did Priyanka in Help/Meta -- and I paraphrase -- WTF is with the "jurors" who voted to "LEAVE IT"?):

"Manly... aggressive lesbians." "Gay lifestyle." Merciful Jay-zuz, if this is allowed to stand, then my worst fears about the anti-gay hatred on DU is far, far worse than I imagined, or documented ever-so-briefly -- and, believe me, on my father's grave, this is brief.

2. So we too can waste our time arguing over jury decisions?
I have more respect for the time of my life than that.

4. hell it's better for my health to watch Hannity
at least I know he's my enemy. didn't know DU was. :(

if there was bickering etc, it'd because the site was set up different and such fights were not out in the open.

7. No...
...I mean, so we don't soften and forget just how bad it can be. Strike that -- change "can be" to "is."

3. Sapph, it's the same as it ever was...
attitudes like that have been allowed to fester on here since I can remember...I never could figger if it was the right wingnuts who feel it's their moral duty to spend time at a democratic website pushing bigoted memes or just party members who don't actually believe in respect and civil rights for all, but whoever they are, they have firmly established a place on DU, with barely a whimper from the Administrators. One of the comments on that topic is so very far off-kilter (besides the OP), I'd be serving up tombstones, but I guess that's just me.

I think that once the site has very obviously become a cesspool of trolls and others with hateful, destructive agendas, then the owners will finally be forced to take some sort of positive action to clean the place up, rather than continue punishing those who vehemently oppose such bigotry. I'll pay attention to DU3 when that day comes.

8. You're absolutely right, Jake.
It is the same as it ever was. The only difference is that those who were forced to suppress their homophobia (publicly) under the old mod system (imperfect as it was) have been given free rein to express it -- and use it for their own ends -- through the no-recourse "jury" system.

I guess all I'm really saying is that it hurts more now.

But you're right. It's just as I've always said, after coming out to people who couldn't handle it: "The only difference between now and five minutes ago is that now you know."

I know... We've always known. But -- damn! -- it still hurts like fresh hell to see it put (literally) into action.

No, the owners will NOT "finally be forced to take some sort of positive action to clean the place up." That is not going to happen. I want very badly to quote/link a very specific post to prove my claim, but I can't without doing a major call-out and/or getting banned (and I am sure I am treading on very thin ice as it is). The upshot is simply: The New DU is exactly what it was meant to be, and functioning exactly as it was always supposed to. It's a wet dream for some.

If that doesn't make sense, I'm sorry. I'm being as cryptic as I can be, with good reason.

In the end... Goddamn, I feel so hated, all over again... as if I were 15 years old, running home after last period as fast as my legs would carry me to avoid the bullies who at lunchtime swore to bash my skull in the girls' room... again.

I just didn't expect it would be given such free rein 35 years later. Stupid me. Fucking stupid me.

Jesus... No wonder our kids kill themselves. I don't know how some of us managed not to.

:(

5. It's essentially like DU2
Except the "Revolutionary Community Moderating System" allows the bigots to run the place rather than merely make the environment hostile for minority groups.

9. You always...
...say exactly what I mean in 25 words or less.

OK, 27 words this time. ;)

10. How's this: let's pay LESS attention to DU3?
Or, if one pays attention, one shouldn't expect much.
