Americans Love Homosexuals and Hate Atheists
According to Harper's Index, 67% of Americans said they would vote for a homosexual candidate for president, while only 49% said they'd vote for an atheist.

So what does this say about Americans?

Considering all the sturm and drang about gay marriage, I find it surprising that so many Americans would support a gay presidential candidate. Then again, the statistic implies that nearly one-third of Americans would NOT vote for a candidate because of his or her sexual orientation, which is still a very high degree of bigotry.

On the other hand, what Americans really love is rich and powerful people. The evidence is that these are the only kinds of people they vote for and who win elections. So who really cares what their race, gender or sexual orientation is, when Americans overwhelmingly and repeatedly support their own subjugation?

This data also reminds us that we live in one of the most religious societies in the world, where belief in god is a far more important qualification than experience, intelligence or compassion.

1. 49% doesn't sound like "hate" to me.
That's actually higher than I expected. Is there a link to this "Harper Index"?

2. On the plus side, those numbers are way up from even 10 years ago.
Wasn't long ago a large super-majority would never consider voting for an atheist.

Just like with gays 50 years ago.

We are making progress.

5. The Enlightment Was Created By Atheists
David Hume was suspected of being an atheist by the British. He was denied political appointments because of it.
When he visited Paris, he dined with the great philosophes who had created the Encyclopedia, Jean Le Rond d'Alembert, Baron d'holbach and Diderot and others. They asked him if it was true that he was an atheist.
Fearing the same type of prejudice that he encountered in Britain, he answered with discretion, "I don't think anybody is really an atheist."
Baron d'holbach answered, "You're dining with seventeen of them, now."

8. Are atheists denied any rights on the basis of atheism? Nope.
So what the fuck are you talking about? I'll take that 'hate' any day, the kind that comes with full rights and fair tax codes. Is whining a sort of atheist sacrament in some circles?

11. hey hey,
some of us are athiests too. And not to mention the fact that both groups tend to be on the firing line of our religious 'friends' it doesn't make any sense to attack a group that has so much in common.

12. Atheists don't experience the extent of legal discrimination LGBT people do
But we still encounter discrimination in a variety of ways thanks to ignorance and religious bias (the same sort of thing that fuels most anti-gay bigotry). It's not "whining" to ask to be treated fairly, is it?

9. "Americans Love Homosexuals"
I'll remember that the next time I fill out my tax return, I'll also remember that when I go to to get my marriage license. I think, I'll also adopt a child (I live in Florida). Just to name a few.

14. It's election season
That's always the time to pit groups against one another.

also love and hate are only 20% off?

My thoughts exactly. As I said earlier, it's not evidence that gay people are "loved", just that atheists rank lower.

15. Try living in the so-called bible belt, which I refer to as the
hypocrisy belt.

Standing up for gay rights and being a non-believer around here, yeah lower.
