Law Would Ban Phelps Followers From Funerals But Not Gay Protests
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/10/102405phelps.htm

A state senator angered over a recent protest at an Indiana soldier's funeral wants to make disorderly conduct a felony offense if it occurs at military funerals.

Sen. Brent Steele, R-Bedford, said he would propose legislation in response to an anti-gay group's protest at the Aug. 28 funeral for Army Staff Sgt. Jeremy Doyle, an Indianapolis native killed in Iraq.
Six members of the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church dragged U.S. flags on the ground and shouted insults at Doyle's surviving family members outside a mortuary in Martinsville, about 30 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

as much as I find Phelps and his clan disgusting, isn't this like against the first amendment

1. I like the Kansas biker's solution to the Phelps problem...
A group of vet bikers get together and travel to military funerals close to or in KS if they hear Phelps and his spawn will be there. They generally contact the police and work with them to form an honor brigade of sorts outside the funeral home/church and they rev their engines so the mourner's don't hear the idiots spewing their hatred and filth as they get in their cars. They then escort the procession and form a ring around the burial site to keep the idiots as far away as possible.

I think it's damn cool. I wish I had some extra money to donate to them to help fund their trips. They are doing it with their own money. But, the whole inflation/gas prices thing is kicking my rear....

2. I love that! They must have freedom of speech if we are to
have freedom of speech. They best way to fight them is stand against them not change the laws.
My big question is why is ok for them to insult demonstrate at guy person's funeral, but not a soldiers???

3. That is my question as well.
I am happy that people are angry about the funeral protests but what fresh hell is this when they have been doing this for years and now everyone is all upset?
