DOMA repeal gets one more voice
New York Rep. William L. Owens (D) has signed on to DOMA repeal now that his home state has voted for gay marriage, says the Watertown Daily Times.
Owens, who previously would only say he was “leaning toward” supporting marriage, now says that it is unfair that all the legally married citizens of his state don’t have equal federal marriage rights.

“I indicated I would not become a co-sponsor until New York took action,” Owens said. “Once they did that, I felt I had an obligation to the citizens in the state to make sure they weren’t adversely impeded by federal law.”

He added, “I feel very strongly that the whole definition of marriage is something that is left up to the states. You could have something like New York allowing gay marriage and New Jersey not (allowing it). And I’m perfectly OK with that.”

1. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but it's support for repeal nonetheless.
Thank you, Rep. Owens!
