Utah student quotes on gay/straight alliance club
These are quotes from a Utah newspaper when they asked students their opinions of having a GSA in their school. Some of them are really disheartening.

If they have problems, they can talk about it during lunch or in between classes, or even after school. They shouldn't even freakin' impose on us. I'm tired of the gays."
Devan Lawrence, 15, Provo High sophomore

"They shouldn't encourage any sexual thing at all, because school isn't about that. It's about learning, and it's about getting an education. It's not about going to sexual clubs. If it was about learning or a sport, I'd understand."
Courtney Dixon, 15, Provo High freshman

"They shouldn't have it inside a high school at all, anywhere. It's just wrong."
Weston Stubbs, 15, Provo High sophomore

"They have, like, a sickness. You can't get mad at somebody for being sick."
Megan Muirhead, 15, Timpview High sophomore

(sigh)

2. I'm assuming here that these fine upstanding students
are themselves not expecting to date, attend school dances, or be part of the prom. . .after all, THAT would be about being "sexual."

Seems like the school should cancel every little boy/girl mingling event until these good Mormons are legal adults. Until then, they shouldn't be at school to flirt with boys, flex their muscles, or sit in English class pondering how to ask someone out.

4. That's likely true.
Most of the Mormons I knew in high school wouldn't even think about dating until they were 16, and some refused to consider it until they were even older. There was also a Mormon who was part of my social group who always prevented us from watching R movies at parties, because that evidently was against his religion.

Of course, that didn't stop him from getting wild and crazy after high school.

5. Oh but those things don't count ...
... that whole boy/girl thing is about love, not sex! Those depraved homo-seck-shuls are only about sex ... and unnatural sex at that! :sarcasm:

9. So much like my school.
Our GSA's board was defaced so often. And now, another school group has made it impossible for us to put up a board (buy using half each of two spaces, when it was the last place open)

No meetings this year, no members, no interest. People here just hate homosexuals; those that don't (if they exist) just aren't interested in a GSA.

10. I am sorry to hear about that
but as to the board issue I would design a board that could work on each side. Maybe having half a word folled by elipses with the other half on the other side, something like that.
