Alberta pastor to face human rights panel

Church leaders, politicians and an American religious rights group are rallying behind a pastor who is to appear before an Alberta human rights tribunal accused of exposing gays to hatred.

In a letter published in the Red Deer Advocate in June 2002, Stephen Boissoin wrote that homosexual rights activists and those who defend them are as immoral as pedophiles, drug dealers and pimps.

After considering the case for three years, the human rights commission will finally hear a complaint filed against Boissoin by Darren Lund, a University of Calgary professor. Lund contends the letter contravenes Alberta's human rights law.

The major players involved say the public tribunal set for Calgary in December will be a battle over gay rights, freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

1. I don't know enough about this story so I probably shouldn't

comment, but I am anyway. I believe as long as he's not committing a physically violent act he should be left to live in th 13th Century. If he hates gays...so what? Gays hate him back. This kind of governmental intrusion is far more dangerous. Today the government uses the code to go sfter this guy...tomorrow...who knows.

charlatans and mountebanks spewing hatred and demanding money from their parishioners, perverting laws, enjoying their tax exemptions. I'm happy that Alberta is going after this pious monster. The situation is even worse in the USA.
