It's definitely not a responsibility I'd like to consider.

I imagine sometime's it's really easy to pick posts that need to go (like obvious conservative, or thug trolling posts.

Many others, I don't know how the moderators work to keep the peace. Especially when both of the ones in the dispute are obviously Liberal/progressive, but have a heart-fealt difference of opinion on a particular topic, and it gets heated.

after that crazy semi-flood we had the other day. I think you'll find most of DU is very accepting - except for the occasional asshole. I'm glad to see NC becoming more progressive. I even got my parents to go with me to the National Protest Against Prop 8 rally a few years ago in Raleigh - and they are in their 70's. :)

34. I'm outing myself because I need to be here

I need to have a place where it's understood that I have a safe zone, and I'm not going to be treated like a non-person because of who I spend my life with.

I haven't been posting much on DU lately. I've been dealing with chronic health issues. I used to post in here a lot... but there are new faces, and I just wanted to say "hi,"

I've also been thinking about how the two interact in my life, and as a leader in both communities, how we can make things more comfortable and less humiliating/ having to deny who you are for one issue or another. Unfortunately, I've seen prejudice on so many fronts, and I think I really could use a place where the "personal is political." more often... and not feel so bloody alone.

After all, isn't that why we're all in this forum?

From the left coast. Small world, eh?

Fortunate to have a supportive family from day one coming out, even if they didn't "get it" at times.

And fortunate to see my much younger cousin and niece, both gay, simply be who they are and make their way through all the usual stuff - relationships, work, family and fun. It's really nice to see their sexuality as an integral part of who they are among the family, no more nor less. And great to see their matter of fact strength in it all.

They've helped bring a sense of basic wholeness and awareness to the family.

I know they've had the challenges that we all understand, yet some of the differences for them and my generation (I'm 58) are striking. That's probably a key reason I feel optimism, and inevitability, for us.
