Gay Democrats Call For Meeting With Bush On Supreme Court Nominee
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/10/100705BushGays.htm

Gay Democrats are calling on the President to meet with LGBT leaders over the Supreme Court nomination of Harriet Miers following a conference call Thursday between the White House and conservative Christian groups.

"The Republican Party's reliance on the corrupt counsel of anti-gay activists is poisoning American policy with toxic cronyism," said Eric Stern, Executive Director of National Stonewall Democrats.

Gay and evangelical groups are both concerned about Miers' positions - with LGBT rights groups calling for a thorough examination of the Bush insider and conservative Christians worried she may be a closet liberal.

Bravo Mr. Stern. If Bushie really wants to be a uniter, he should meet with these groups

1. I'm very troubled that she supported Texas' sodomy law.
There could be some important cases for us down the road...the constitutionality of the "Defense of Marriage Act", for instance.

I think there's a case before SCOTUS that challenges the consitutionality of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" currently.

Miers could be the swing vote on cases important to GLBT people.

Bush should meet with the gay Democrats group. He won't, of course, but he should.

2. They REALLY Want to Bring the Sodomy Laws Back
A lot of wingnuts were really pissed when the USSC threw out the sodomy laws.
They want to start imprisoning gay people again.

Sandra Day O'Connor voted to throw out the sodomy laws.
Miers looks like a sure vote to bring them back.

It was a 6-3 decision, so the appointment of Miers does not automatically mean that the sodomy laws will be restored. There should still be 5 of the original 6 votes to overturn, but some of them are getting old too.

The freedom of every gay person in America is hanging by a thread.

3. If they call for a meeting and it doesn't happen
it will only make us look more impotent.

I have no reason to believe that shrub with meet with Dems muchs less LGTB Dems.

This seems quixotic.

5. Yeah, but that meeting was an accident.
He was wanting to give the Lincoln bedroom a makeover and figured the LCRs could give him some pointers.
