Ban on gay parenting proposed
When she was 9 years old, Michele Surprenant watched the woman next door punish her three children by locking them out of the house. The woman did it again and again, and Surprenant couldn't stand the sight — especially the 2-year-old boy, sitting out in a diaper.

"It made a huge impression on me," recalled Surprenant, 33, of DeKalb County. "Finally, my best friend and I took him inside to play with him and make sure he was safe."

That desire to care for mistreated children stuck with her. Over the past three years, the hospital social worker has been a foster mother to a total of six children. Four have been medically fragile, including her current foster child, Nick, 2, who suffered brain damage from being beaten in his former home.

But Surprenant is worried that she might not be a foster mother much longer. She is a lesbian, and she fears that Georgia is on the verge of banning foster parenting and adoptions by gays and lesbians. That fear is shared by gay rights groups.

1. from personal experience, I know that gays and lesbians often . . .
take in kids that no one else wants . . . AIDS babies, HIV positive children, troubled adolescents, disabled kids, etc. . . preventing people who want to help these kids from doing so is short-sighted, stupid, and just plain cruel . . .

fundies claim to care about others, but they really only care about themselves . . . and preserving and advancing their own particular brand of bigotry . . . these people disgust me . . .

5. But they might turn them gay! And get them abortions while burning the
flag and listening to rock music. Not just the girls, mind you. Everyone! The boys too. Mandatory abortions for everyone!

The sky will fall!

2. Next thing you know they'll be busting down doors
stealing crack babies back from gay homes and throwing them back out onto the streets, telling them tough luck, they're on their own. But then that's the mantra the poor and unwanted have come to expect from our rulers these days. We heard it alot in New Orleans. "You're on your own."

4. They WERE knocking down doors in Texas

when they found two men in bed- that's how the supreme's reversed Texas anti-gay ( called maliciously sodomy) laws.

We have to support any fight regarding this- it is a violation of civil rights.

I posted some articles in another thread on gay parenting because that is their arguement that it is in the best interest of the kids. So that trumps the women's right to fairness.

In the "homophobe du jour" thread I posted about Glenn Stanton a psuedointellectual FRC liar who hammers at this issue: i.e. the best homes for kids are with a mommy and a daddy. He gave a two hour speech that CSPAN covered last year--it got me motivated to look up the litrature this puke was citing. he lies and twists the truth.

3. Get to work.
We managed to stop it here in Kansas at least for a while. It took a lot of people and a lot of work but they got it done. Good luck.
