Truman still went ahead the following year and desegregated the military in 1948 Minority rights cannot be up for votes. This is why we have a constitution.

2. Absolutely.....History has proven that sometimes the majority can be tyrannical.

Rights cannot be delayed because it's politically expedient. It's time to do the right thing.

I always find it amazing how the much maligned American Communist Party at that time took very decent sensible positions on issues

7. I wonder if there was a taxpayer funded survey at the time that asked...
...the white soldiers if they would be comfortable showering and sharing quarters with black soldiers, and other such nonsensical questions. Because that's the equivalent of what we have now regarding gay and lesbian soldiers, all with the President's approval. Shameful. This is good to know. Thanks for helping provide this historical perspective. :hi: K&R!

8. wow!!! 7%? shows how ignorant(racist) the military was overall, because, I'm sure today
that the #'s are very high against Gays in the military, although not as high as 93% perhaps, but still a high majority.

10. I had heard when the CA courts struck down marriage laws banning blacks and whites
from marrying, that something like 90% of the country disagreed. Since when do we use public opinion to do what is right?
