Southern Baptists vote to support gay ban
Southern Baptists vote to support gay ban
By Bob Smietana - The (Nashville) Tennessean
Posted : Thursday Jun 17, 2010 13:21:07 EDT

ORLANDO, Fla. — Southern Baptists meeting here approved a resolution Thursday urging Congress to leave “don’t ask, don’t tell” in place.

The policy allows gays to serve in the military if they keep their sexual orientation private.

The possibility of lifting the ban on gays serving openly in the military may cause some Southern Baptist chaplains to reconsider their service, said Keith Travis, leader of the chaplaincy evangelism team at the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board.

Travis, who was an army chaplain for 28 years, was one of more than 40 retired chaplains who sent a letter to President Obama earlier this year, asking him not to lift the ban.

“I believe some chaplains will leave,” Travis said.

2. Good. I hope they do leave.
In 22yrs in the Navy, I can honestly say I only met two chaplins I respected or would have confided in. The rest of them were too busy clawing their way to the top and stabbing each other in the back on the way up to be of any help to the rest of us.

4. I don't think it's a surprise that the Southern Baptists are resistant to
meaningful change.

Evidently these people are disconnected primitives, perhaps a cult of cognitively impaired reactionaries, without access to education, news, or general social perception.

5. I think Baptists should be allowed to serve as long as they keep their religion private.

7. bbut, bbbut....
should that unchristian organization be telling people what to do involving the military anyhow, considering they're an affront to God since they aren't the true religion, and instead are just a sacrilegious schism of the One True church, The HRCC!

See how easy it is Baptists? You aren't crap on our shoes if we choose to mistreat you like a few Catholic purists do!

Now get your noses out of our pants, and maybe focus on yourselves.

Anti-gay, Southern Baptist minister arrested for soliciting sex-->

from a male undercover officer.

>>The Reverend Lonnie Latham, an outspoken opponent of homosexuality and a national figure in the Southern Baptist Convention, was arrested on Tuesday in US state Oklahoma and charged with propositioning a male undercover police officer<<

He claims he was set-up. Maybe the Devil made him do it.

Those damn preachers and lawmakers who break the same laws they demand we obey. It's "Do as I say, not do as I do."

11. Polls show those who leave will be made up for by those who refuse to join because of the ban
People have already polled people in the military, and people who might sign up to the military, to ask them if they'd leave/join over DADT being repealed. The poll showed there would be negligent movement, and any who leave the army would be replaced by people who refuse to join because of the ban.

12. the fewer people who go to "church" the better!
Southern Baptists are full of hate, especially when they're "full of love" . . . they're full of something allright.

and just so's you know, I was "born and raised" in the SBC. I'm here to tell you that there is not ONE single solitary redeeming element in that "religion".

So - good - the more people they ostracize, the fewer fools who get swept up in their patriarchal bs.
