Ahnuld vetoes anti-gay bashing measure
http://www.sacbee.com/state_wire/story/13529724p-14370392c.html

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed a bill that would have required candidates who sign a code of fair campaign practices to refrain from using negative references to a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.

Assemblyman Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, said his bill was needed to discourage political campaigns that create fear and intimidation and could lead to violence.

But Schwarzenegger said signing the campaign code is voluntary and there would be no way to enforce the bill except through the ballot box.

wonder if this is a hint of whether or not he's going to veto the gay marriage bill

1. is it true
that he said that it isn't the legislature's job to mandate same sex marriage - that it should be up to the courts?

HUH?

If this is truly what he said, can we just ask the rethugs to get their stories straight. You can't have it both ways. "Activist" judges in MA or "Activist" legislature in CA! MAKE UP YOUR FREAKING MINDS!

4. Ugh--how much longer is he in office?
Who are we running against him? I'm so sick of him running his personal agenda--to get in good with the neo-cons in the WH...

He's gotta go...

5. Now WE are responsible...
We as equality loving democrats who believe the government has no business in our beds are responsible for calling Arnie and telling him to do the right thing with the gay marriage bill sent to him yesterday; which is sign it.

Government was never meant to be a tyranny of any majority and the constitution's writers tried very hard to make sure that minorities were protected too.

The current blather from the right about Gay marriage being the door-opener to forms of bad behavior ignores the fact that all their examples actually represent types of relationships where there is a diminished capacity for consent (think about it).

Two adults can CONSENT to being married and it should not be any business of a system of government which "believes all (men) are created equal". The foundation of the country's law is equality, but even then such obvious groups as women and blacks had to be added. Gays are the next obvious group to be added.

Please call (916) 445-2841 and ask Governor Schwarzenegger to sign the Gay marriage bill into law.

6. Oh course the Grope-inator had to veto the measure.
If he had signed the bill, he wouldn't be able to call his opposition "girly men" any more.
