Apparently the buzz to repeal DADT is gaining steam. I think it's at the point of inevitability.

Apparently the buzz to repeal DADT is gaining steam. I think it's at the point of inevitability.

MSM has picked up the meme. Gates has voiced support. Military has weighed in for repeal. Latest polls show overwhelming support to dropping DADT. Gergen, present at the decision to go for the DADT compromise, said tonight that all of the parties involved would probably favor a repeal now.

Excruciatingly slow, perhaps, but persistently sure.

1. Armed Forces Chief of Staff spoke for repeal today, strongly, IMO.

2. It's the one thing that the President was clear and unequivocal about
in his SOTU speech. If he had showed that kind of leadership on single-payer, we might be talking about settling for a public option right now.

4. If it weren't being driven by top brass who are sick of losing good people
it would be as silent as a tomb.

DADT has cost them too many trained people. Keeping this silly policy in a time of war makes no sense, whatsoever, and they've finally been forced to admit it now that the worst parts of stop loss are over.

6. At politico's arena there's like zero people defending DADT
I seriously had to scroll down like half the page to see someone even remotely defending DADT (basically saying "I'm confident our military leaders can come to the right decision on this issue, leave it up to them"). Shortly after that the posts were talking about a different topic. The very first post on the page was also commenting about the lack of people defending DADT, saying that Conservatives seem to be becoming too ashamed to speak out and defend DADT, knowing how embarrassing it'll look for them 10 years later.

That's just a sign of how inevitable DADT's repeal is.

7. Getting the top DOD people on board makes a big difference...
but so does President Obama coming out strongly in favor of ending DADT.

This is leadership. This is the president for whom I thought I voted.

I see a light at the end of the tunnel, and I think it might be change I can believe in.

No more of the New Way and bipartisan nonsense--PROGRESSive!

8. Sooner than it will take to legalize marijuana
just to jump off topic a bit don't know how long I'll be waiting for that to happen - but getting rid of DADT is a priority so yay - the time is fast approaching. Hopefully lead to getting rid of DOMA in the near future.

9. Very slow. This summary paragraph from NPR last night...
Whether Congress repeals a law is far from certain - a House bill lacks enough votes, the Senate had not even introduced a bill. So, in the meantime, Defense Secretary Gates says the Pentagon will make it harder to kick out someone who is gay. He says the military will raise the bar in what information is needed to launch an investigation.

10. Excruciatingly slow, indeed...
I think it's a good start, but a start that is about a year too late. I don't expect it to end within 5 years at least.
